➢ Problem 1

A shopkeeper deals in milk and 45 litre mixture is to be distributed in

Milk and Water in the ratio of 4 : 1. If 4 litre milk and 3 litre water will
be added in the mixture then what will be the new ratio of water and
milk?????

Total quantity of mixture = 45 litre

The ratio Milk and Water in the ratio = 4 : 1

4
Quantity of milk in the mixture = ∗ 45 = 9 ∗ 4 = 36
5

1
Quantity of water in the mixture = ∗ 45 = 9 ∗ 1 = 9
5

New ratio= milk : water = (36 + 4) : (9 + 3) = 40 : 12 = 10 : 3

Therefore, The new ratio of water to milk is 3 : 10

Answer : 3 : 10

mixture was taken out and 32 litre Glycerin and 48 litre Rose water are
added in the mixture. The final mixture contains 30% Glycerin. Find out
the quantity of the mixture that is taken out.

Given that, Quantity of Glycerin = 48 litre

And Quantity of Rose water = 144 litre

Total Quantity of mixture = 48 + 144 = 192 litre
48 1
Quantity of Glycerin in the mixture = litre = litre
192 4

144 3
Quantity of Rose water in the mixture = litre = litre
192 4

1 3
Ratio = Glycerin : Rose water = : = 1:3
4 4

1 𝐷
Quantity of Glycerin in the final mixture = 48 − 𝐷 ∗ + 32 = 80 −
4 4

3 3𝐷
Quantity of Rose water in the final mixture = 144 − 𝐷 ∗ + 48 = 192 −
4 4

According to the question,

𝐷 3𝐷
(80 − ) : (192 − )=3:7
4 4

𝐷 3𝐷
So, 7* (80 − ) = 3 * (192 − )
4 4

7𝐷 9𝐷
So, 560 - = 576 -

Answer : 32 liter

➢ Problem 3

In a mixture, the ratio of the alcohol and water is 6 : 5. When 22 litre

mixture are replaced by water, the ratio becomes 9 : 13. Find out the
quantity of water after replacement.

Given, the ratio of alcohol : water = 6 : 5 Total = 6 + 5 = 11

Let, the mixture contains 6x litre of alcohol and 5x litre of water.

6
Quantity of alcohol after replacement = 6x - ∗ 22 = 6x – 12
11
5
Quantity of water after replacement = 5x - ∗ 22 + 22 = 5x – 10+ 22 =5x +12
11

According to the question ,

6x – 12 : 5x + 12 = 9 : 13

So, 13* (6x – 12) = 9 * (5x + 12 )

So, 78x – 156 = 45x + 108

So, 78x – 45x = 156 + 108 = 264

So, 33x = 264 So, x = 8

Water in the mixture after replacement = 5*8 – 10 + 22 = 40 + 22 = 52 litre

Answer : 52 litre

➢ Problem 4

So, 5x = 100

So, x = 20

Answer : 20 litres

➢ Problem 5

Copper and Zinc are in the ratio 2 : 3 in 200 gms of an alloy. The quantity
(in gms) of copper to be added to it make the ratio 3 : 2 is what ??????

Given, Total quantity of alloy = 200 gm

Ratio of Copper and Zinc = 2 : 3 Total = 2 + 3 = 5

2
Quantity of copper in the alloy = ∗ 200 = 80
5

3
Quantity of zinc in the alloy = ∗ 200 = 120
5

Quantity of copper in new alloy = 80 + x

Quantity of zinc in the new alloy = 120

80+𝑥 3
According to the question, =
120 2

So, 2* (80 + x ) = 120 * 3

So, 160 + 2x = 360

So, 2x = 360 – 160 = 200

So, x = 100

Therefore, the quantity of Copper to be added in the alloy is 100 gms

Answer : 100 gms

➢ Problem 6
How many kilograms of rice of 5 .4 taka per kg should be mixed be mixed
with 10 kg of 4 . 5 taka per kg, such that there may be gain of 20% by
selling the mixture at 5 . 94 taka per kg.

Let, the quantity of 5.4 taka per kg rice = x kg

According to the question,

x * 5.4 + 4.5 * 10 = 5. 94*( 10 + x ) + 120*100

So, 5.4x + 45 = 4.95 * (10+x)

So, 5.4x + 45 = 49.5 + 4.95x

So, 5.4 x – 4.95 x = 49.5 – 45

So, 0.45 x = 4.5

So, x = 10 kg

Therefore, the required quantity of rice is 10 kg

Answer : 10 kg

➢ Problem 9

The amount of water (in ml) that should be added to reduce 7 ml lotion,
containing 35% alcohol, is what??????

Let, The required volume of water to be added = x ml

When added to 7 ml lotion, the total volume = 7 + x ml

If the lotion contains 70% alcohol, then it contains 30% water.

If it contains 35% alcohol, it also contains 65% of water.

According to the question,

(amount of water in lotion before dilution)+(amount of water added)=

(amount of water in lotion after dilution)

So, (30% of 7) + x = ( 65% of ‘7+x’)

7 7+𝑥
So, 30 * + x = 65 *
100 100

So, 210 + 100x = 65 * (7 + x )

So, 35 x = 245

So, x = 7

Therefore, 7ml of water should be added in the lotion.
