Check out all of the wonderful books we

have shared so far!
We practiced our reading fluency with
stories such as Where the Wild Things Are
and It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Students also chose books from our Spooky

Book Collection and practiced writing
summaries.
For writing, the class would draw a creature and
then write a descriptive paragraph about it. Then
they would give their writing to a classmate who
would try to draw the shape.
We have been learning how to use models to demonstrate
division.
See the link to watch a video of me demonstrating the Group
Model, Area Model and Number Line Model.

Let the Fall Celebration begin!
Candy Pumpkins
The science behind the experiment: How will different liquids
such as Water, Milk, Vinegar and Vegetable Oil affect the candy
pumpkins? We discovered that water caused the candy
pumpkin to dissolve the most while oil hardly had any effect.
While waiting to see any changes, we made Bony Skeletons and talked
about the usefulness of bones – how they help us move, protect us and
keep our shape.
Pumpkin Science

Will a pumpkin float?

Yes! Pumpkins are not very dense. There is
a lot of air inside a pumpkin. This causes it
to float!
Students were asked to estimate the length of a
piece of yarn that would measure the
circumference of the pumpkin.
The Glowing Pumpkin Experiments

What we learned: Fire needs fuel to burn. Air (oxygen) is the fuel. When you
put a lit candle inside a pumpkin it will go out because the fire “changes the
oxygen to carbon dioxide”. Even if we carve an eye, the candle will still go out
because the carbon dioxide (CO2) is going out of the eye which does not allow
any air to get in to fuel the fire!
Yet, if we carve a mouth to make a “Jack-o-Lantern”, now the candle
will stay lit because the air can get inside the pumpkin through the
mouth and the CO2 goes out the eye! So, next time you’re making a
Jack-o-Lantern with your family, you can thrill them with SCIENCE!
The Drooling Pumpkin

This is just “gross fun”! If you want to make your own, just take a few
teaspoons of baking soda, some food coloring, and add a few ounces of
vinegar.
