Dear Friends,

At the outset, I wish to thank District Governor Nagaraja Rao, DTM

for appointing me as the Editor of the District Newsletter. Through
voice of 82, it will be my endeavour to bring to you news, information
and tips. I will need your support as I hold the pen of previous editors
who have done a commendable job. Special thanks to TM Parag Karve and Trinity for helping me
with the cover page design.

As a team we need to communicate, communicate and communicate once again so that our
effectiveness is enhanced. Communication is our key to success. Without effective communication
our desire, dream and vision would be meaningless. To succeed as a team, we must ensure that
every member of District 82 has the same desire, follows the same dream and works towards
achieving the same vision. Three years in a row we have been the number one District in the world.
This was only possible due to the consistent and focused efforts of the members of District 82. This
year is a crucial year for all of us. As we move towards the begriming of a new era expectations are
high, we must live up to the expectations and prove that yes we can do it once again.

As we inch slowly, steadily and confidently to become the best district in the world once again
voice of 82 will be your companion, your echo. Come enjoy every moment as we achieve
greatness together...

Regards,

From the desk of : International President
Greetings members and guests of District 82N and 82S:

This is a particularly exciting year for Toastmasters International. In

October, the organization celebrated 85 years of helping people
improve their communication and leadership skills – providing a place
where millions of men and women have taken steps toward better lives.

You, too, are part of that exhilarating journey, and I am certain you
will experience the many benefits Toastmasters has to offer.

I urge you to follow your own path and believe in yourself. Set goals
in Toastmasters, and when you achieve those goals, help others achieve theirs. As we celebrate our
organization’s milestone anniversary and reflect upon its many achievements, we also look on this
as a time of opportunity.

As Ralph Smedley, the founder of Toastmasters International, said, “The past prepares us to meet
the challenges of the future.”

I wish you all a wonderful journey of growth and discovery and once again, congratulations!

Sincerest regards,

Gary Schmidt, DTM

Toastmasters International Vision

Voice of : District Governor
Fellow toastmasters,
Welcome to a brand new Toastmasters year! District 82 is ready for the
term 2010-2011, with a new set of leaders, new clubs and new members
too!
We have had a fantastic year of achievement last year. And this year
promises to be even better! It is a tribute to the past leadership that
Toastmasters International has approved the district split which will be
formalized effective July 1, 2011. This year is going to be the all important
transition year, which brings in its wake, unique challenges and
opportunities.
Before getting down to work, let us look at the theme for the year. DTM Pat Johnson had written
to me in March asking me to adopt the same theme as chosen by the incoming International
President. Her theme - 'Achieving Greatness Together'. I did wonder: Why do we need to have
a singular theme for a pluralistic collection of people? Does it unite? Does it provide uniform
direction? Does it help overcome the distractions that can stem from different pursuits?
Yes, it does all that. It also provides Form, Focus & Faith.
Although we all belong to the same organization, the plans, processes & the passion that drive
each one of us may vary in nature & intensity. Each of us may reach our goals in very different
ways shaped by our individual styles. By having a common theme, our activities get a focus and
the end result is simply beautiful.
How does Toastmasters help you in achieving greatness? I have expounded on this theme on our
website www.t82.org . There are many ways of achieving greatness; but any road to achieving
that must be built on bedrock of respect for the individual, a commitment to excellence and a
rejection of mediocrity.
We are very fortunate to have a fantastic set of District Officers to take us forward in this exciting
journey. We have 14 very capable Division Governors. We have 63 committed Area Governors.
To top it all we have 13 extremely Talented District Officers. This is a dream team any District
Governor could ever wish for! I am sure with their guidance and your active participation; we
shall take our District to heights never achieved before in Toastmasters! I look forward to be closely
working with you in the year ahead.

With warm regards,

Nagaraja Rao, DTM

Building bridges... Across borders
When I went to the District 82 website www.t82.org and read about your
theme for 2009-2010, "Building Bridges" I thought-that's how I learned
about you, District 82 members.

Through a chance 'meeting' on www.linkedin.com, I connected to your PDG

John Bosco Abraham, and through him I learned a lot about you. John built
a bridge.

We are all links in a giant bridge across the globe, and Toastmasters
International is our common ground. Borders are just man's artificial lines
drawn on a map, and we are truly much more alike than different. In my
home club in Western Massachusetts (northeastern USA) we have strong
bonds of friendship and support that have paid off in the tremendous growth
of our members.

Our club is 40 years old and consistently Distinguished or better. One of our members recently made it her
goal to help people who are in transition gain the skills they need to find new jobs by coming to Toastmasters.
I'm sure that you have equally committed members in D82 doing similar things.

Being the number one district in the world is a distinct honor in our organization. My hat is off to you.
Being number one for three years in a row is incredible.

How did you accomplish this? I think it's by building, and strengthening, the bridges between people, one
club, one meeting, one guest, one member at a time. Your members and potential members have an incredible
thirst for knowledge and self development, as part of global trend to shrink distances between people, and
lift everyone's standard of living. This is a welcome trend, since we all have much to learn from each other,
and room to grow. What better way to do that than Toastmasters?

What can our members and clubs learn from each other? Knowledge and experience that's shared is multiplied.
How awesome would it be for clubs in different countries to adopt one another and share ideas?

With the innovations in communication today it's not only possible, it is easy, and it can help build the
bridges that make our world better. I will challenge members in my district to do that, and hope to build
more bridges in the future.
