Just found an overview I'd written up a while back...

YEAR ONE

This is Spidey first learning to use his powers, interspersed with his junior year of high school. Most of
the Major super villains in Spidey's Rogues gallery are introduced (though I'm going to postpone Spidey's
first encounter with Doctor Doom), and the grand finale (Annual #1) is the first appearance of The
Sinister Six, followed by the introduction of Mary Jane.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Betty Brant, Emma Watson, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, J. Jonah
Jameson, Liz Allen, Robbie Robertson
Crossovers: The Fantastic Four
Villains: Chameleon, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, The Lizard, Mysterio, Sandman, The
Scorpion, The Vulture

THE SILVER AGE

Part 1
Pete's senior year of high school starts off with the first appearance of the Green Goblin, who then falls
back from view as Spidey spends most of the sessions hunting him down. While most of the super
villains Spidey fights are megalomaniacs or petty criminals, Spidey's investigations into the Green Goblin
reveal that he's making a power play in NY's Maggia underworld. The GG's main rival is a mysterious
figure known as The Master Planner, who beings to employ Supervillains such as Electro, Shocker, The
Rhino, and Sandman. As the criminals start getting smarter (or at least have better plans), Spidey begins
to work with Captain Stacy, who can only secretly support him as Spidey's still being wanted by the
police due mainly to The Bugle's bad press.
Annual #2 Graduation from high school, Flash Thompson enlists in the army, and The Master Planner is
revealed as Doctor Octopus, before killing Captain Stacy.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Betty Brant, Emma Watson, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborne, Liz Allen, Mary
Jane Watson, J. Jonah Jameson, Ned Leeds, Robbie Robertson
Crossovers: The Avengers, Moonboy & Devil Dinosaur
Villains: Electro, The Enforcers, The Rhino, The Ringmaster, Sandman, Shocker, Smythe, The Spider-
Slayer
Arch-Villains: Green Goblin, The Master Planner

Part 2
With the Green Goblin controlling a large network of criminals, and the Master Planner forming a rival
criminal organization employing super villains as enforcers, the original Maggia are broken and
desperate but are consolidated again under Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin.

Meanwhile, Pete's first year of college begins with the introduction of Gwen Stacy, Eddie Brock and
Felicia Hardy (Brock won't become Venom for a long time, so his early introduction is to set him up as
Pete's classmate and friend, as Harry gets more distant - at a later point revealed to have become
addicted to drugs). Felicia is similarly introduced early, but plays only a minor role as a classmate and
friend of Gwen Stacy's.

Annual #3 The Death of Gwen Stacy, followed by the final confrontation with Norman Osborn.

Supporting Cast: Eddie Brock, Felicia Hardy, Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, J. Jonah Jameson, Miles Warren,
Norman Osborn, Robbie Robertson
Crossovers: The Human Torch, Spider-Woman
Villains: The Beetle, Doctor Doom, Hydroman, Juggernaut, Manwolf, Molten Man, Stegron
Arch-Villains: Green Goblin, The Kingpin

THE BRONZE AGE

More aware now of the larger picture of organized crime in NY, Spidey begins an assertive investigation
and attack on organized crime. This phase will also have Spidey begin to get a larger view of the Marvel
Universe itself , with regular appearances by other Marvel heroes.

Part 1
Harry checks himself into a rehabilitation centre, and Pete gets Eddie Brock a job at The Daily Bugle.
New classmates include Angelica Jones and Bobbie Drake, while Pete's new dorm-mate is Brian
Braddock, an exchange student from Britain.

With The Green Goblin and Master Planner both out of the picture, three new factions arise to challenge
The Kingpin, who has established a far-reaching criminal empire. His major challenger is the recently
returned from Europe Silvermane, who was previously the Maggia's head before the GG and Doctor
Octopus came along. Also posing a significant threat is a new faction led by Tombstone. Finally, there is
the mysterious masked upstart known only as The Rose, who the others consider an annoyance at best.
Each faction is actively attempting to acquire various pieces of a broken tablet, which will together
supposedly reveal the secret of immortality.
…at least that's what Spidey initially believes. The mysterious Madame Web will begin to direct Spider-
man and drop hints of a greater destiny awaiting him, and will eventually reveal that the Tablet contains
the secret of becoming a "God".

Among the subplots of this section, Spidey's investigations will lead him to discover that Robbie
Robertson and Tombstone have known each other since they were children.

The femme fatales Silver Sable and The Black Cat are also introduced, and Spidey begins dating MJ. Aunt
May (who Pete has only been visiting sporadically since moving out) reveals that she's seeing someone,
and will later get engaged, but circumstances will keep Pete from meeting this suitor for the time being.

Annual #4 - Death of Captain Marvel followed by the final battle with Tombstone. After convincing
Robbie Robertson to testify in court against him, Tombstone murders Robbie Robertson and Spidey,
Daredevil, and the Punisher join forces in a final assault. In the end Tombstone will be killed by an
assassin, introducing The Hobgoblin to the proceedings.

Supporting Cast: Angela Jones, Brian Braddock, The Daily Bugle Staff, Eddie Brock, Mary Jane Watson,
Miles Warren
Allies: Daredevil, Madame Web
Crossovers(besides The Death of Captain Marvel): Dr. Strange, The Human Torch, The Hulk, Red Sonja
Villains: The Black Cat, Hammerhead, The Jackal, La Tarantula, Man Mountain Marko, Morbius, The
Punisher, Rocket Racer, Silver Sable
Arch-Villains: The Kingpin, the Rose, Silvermane, Tombstone

Part 2
Pete proposes to MJ, and, scared that he's simply using her to get over Gwen, she up and leaves town.
Pete then gets an apartment with classmates Angelica Jones and Bobbie Drake, by this point revealed as
Firestar and Iceman. Flash Thompson returns from Vietnam in a wheelchair, and he and Peter bury the
hatchet. Aunt May's fiance is revealed as Otto Octavius, supposedly rehabilitated.

The Rose and The Hobgoblin join forces, taking over a significant portion of Tombstone's empire, the
duo suddenly becoming a significant player in the struggle for power among the Underworld crime
bosses, as each group continues the hunt for the Tablet pieces (at this point, either each of the bosses
posses one piece of the tablet, or Spidey has them all or some, but there is one piece still missing).

Significant Events:

Silvermane kills Madame Web to get the final piece of the Tablet and tries uses this with copies made of
the other pieces to become a God, instead finding that he ages backwards until becoming a child, then a
baby, then ceases to exist.

The Rose is revealed as Wilson Fisk's son, and kills his father.

Annual #5 - Secret Wars, followed by Spidey acquiring the new black costume on Warworld.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Debra Whitman, Flash Thompson, The Daily Bugle Staff, Otto Octavius
Allies: Daredevil, Iceman, Firestar, Madame Web
Crossovers (besides Secret Wars): Spider-Ham, Ka-Zar, The Prowler, The X-Men
Villains: The Big Man, The Foreigner, Hammerhead, Man Mountain Marko, Silver Sable, The Spider-
Slayer 2, Typhoid Mary
Arch-Villains: The Hobgoblin, Kingpin, The Rose, Silvermane

Part 3
MJ and Harry Osborne return. Under the influence of the symbiotic costume, which greatly increases
Spidey's power, Pete begins to juggle a renewed relationship with her while having a fling with The Black
Cat as Spider-man. As he becomes more aggressive and selfish under the costumes influence, fights with
Bobbie and Angela lead Spidey to strike out on his own again.

This period sees the return of many classic Spidey villains.

Significant Events:

Peter finds out Brock is selling faked photoshopped pictures to the Bugle, and gets him fired.

Later, Peter quits the Daily Bugle, unable to keep from telling JJJ off.

Under the alien costume's influence, Spidey beats Otto Octavius within an inch of his life and threatens
him to stay away from May Parker, causing him to flee town without a word to her.

Things escalate with the symbiotic costume until it leads to Spidey accidentally killing The Vulture. Peter
learns the costume is trying to bond with his nervous system and finally removes it with Mr. Fantastic's
help.

Annual #6 - Final showdown with the Hobgoblin, and the reveal of his identity, followed by Spidey &
MJ's wedding.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Flash Thomspon, The Daily Bugle Staff, Eddie Brock, Harry Osborn, MJ, Otto
Octavius
Allies: The Black Cat, Daredevil
Crossovers: The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wolverine
Villains: The Chameleon, Electro, Hydro-man, Kraven, Mysterio, The Puma, Sandman, The Scorpion, The
Sinister Syndicate, The Vulture
Arch-Villains: The Hobgoblin, The Symbiote

THE DARK AGE

One of the running themes that will become more blatant in this phase is that Spidey is starting to
inspire a new, younger generation of heroes. The Prowler was the first, with Spidey managed to
"reform" Rocket Racer and The Black Cat. Unfortunately, Spidey's time in the black costume also leads
to an increase in the number of anti-heroes, as the Marvel Universe as a whole seems to get darker and
more violent.

Part 1
We kick off with an Inferno crossover as NY is transformed into a Hellish alternate version of itself. Flash
Thompson heroically sacrifices himself to save Harry Osborne, who is driven mad by the event and takes
on the identity of the Green Goblin.
In revenge for Kraven's death (the Kraven's Last Hunt storyline would be played out in an adventure in
part 2), the Chameleon returns, and when Spidey foils him he discovers something surprising: evidence
that suggests his parents were framed and then killed by the Red Skull. The primary motivation during
this part will be the clearing of Peter's parents names.

Aunt May begins dating Willie Lumpkin, the postman. Harry Osborne marries Flash's widow, Liz Allen.
Emma Watson and Harry Osborne die at the hands of Venom.

The Sandman gives up his life of crime and joins Silver Sable, who now leads SHIELD's foreign affairs
division, but is later blackmailed by Doctor Octopus into rejoining the Sinister Six. Doctor Octopus also
finds out that Curt Conners was the Lizard, and manages to transform him again into this form,
seemingly permanently this time.

Annual #7 - Dr. Octopus returns with the Revenge of The Sinister Six which coincides with the formation
of the New Fantastic Four, comprised of Spidey, Wolverine, The Hulk, and Ghost Rider. Doctor Octopus
dies at the hands of Sandman.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborne, Liz Allen, MJ, Willie Lumpkin
Crossovers: Captain America, Cloak & Dagger, The Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, The Hulk, Prowler,
Sandman, Silver Sable, Wolverine, X-Men
Villains: Chameleon, Crossbones, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin 2, The Lizard, Mysterio, The Red
Skull, The Scorpion, Solo, Vulture 2
Arch-villains: Venom

Part 2
Framed by Venom for the murder of Harry Osborne, Spidey is once again hunted by the police, and an
absorbent bounty placed on his head by Liz Allen brings to town a bevy of would-be bounty hunters &
villains looking to make a name for themselves. Meanwhile, the alien costume returns and breaks Eddie
Brock out of prison. Spidey briefly adopts new costumes and identities, which he later bestows on four
young heroes.

Calypso, lover of Kraven and a Voodoo witch, takes mental control of The Lizard, who is wandering the
sewers after the defeat of the second Sinister six, sending him after Spidey.

Venom is killed by The Scorpion. The Punisher dies at the hands of Carnage.

Annual #8 - Maximum Carnage and the death of Aunt May. After saving the city from Carnage, Spidey is
offered a full pardon and the key to the city by the mayor.

Supporting Cast: Aunt May, Liz Allen, MJ, Willie Lumpkin,

Allies: Prowler
Crossovers (Besides Maximum Carnage) The Avengers, Cloak & Dagger, The FF, Sleepwalker, Slingers
Villains: Calypso, Cardiac, Carnage, Deadpool, Deathlok, Foolkiller, The Lizard, Lobos Brothers, The
Punisher, The Puma, Rhino, Scorpion, Solo, Venom

THE GOLDEN AGE

Spidey meets up with Captain Britain, who reveals that he's Brian Braddock, and it was Peter that
inspired him to become the hero he is. Spidey joins the Avengers, and becomes a world-renowned hero.

Part 1- Emperor Doom

Doctor Doom conquers the world and it's up to The Avengers and Fantastic Four to take him down once
and for all. MJ reveals she's pregnant.

Part 2 - Civil War

The heroes fare torn apart by politics and the infamous Superhero Registration Act. Spidey and a
number of other heroes go underground, representing the resistance.

Part 3 - The Infinity War

The heroes of Earth make one last stand against the mad godlike being Thanos, who wields a weapon of
unimaginable power. In the end, Spidey becomes an avatar for Captain Universe and tips the scale for
the heroes.

Annual #9 - The End

The birth of Pete & MJ's daughter, May Parker, and Spider-man's retirement, leaving the city in the
hands of the heroes Spidey inspired, with Hobbie Brown taking on the mantle of Spider-Man.

Epilogue - Spidey 2099.

RAVENCROFT INSTITUTE
(Sanitorium specializing into treatment of superhuman criminals, Westechester County, New York)

HISTORY
The land where the Ravencroft Institute was built had been seen as cursed by the local indigenous tribes
since before the 15th century, having been claimed as the territory of a cannibalistic cult that worshiped
the dark god Knull. Giovanni da Verrazzano was exploring the region in 1524, some of his men went
missing. He led a search party for the missing men and eventually found the men's remains on the land.
His men had been skinned and chopped into pieces, and those pieces were arranged in a spiral.
Verrazzano was so spooked by what he saw that he ended his exploration of the continent early.

The first holding facility built was a single wooden cell constructed in 1664 to house Cortland Kasady, a
settler who had been driven insane by the cult and become a murderous cannibal. Cortland escaped,
murdering his wife Molly Ravencroft.

In 1783, one of the final battles of the American Revolutionary War took place on the land. It was during
the battle that the "original Captain America" was killed by a rogue cannonball.

in 1804, a cult that worshipped the extra-dimensional creature Shuma-Gorath was formed on the land.
In 1820, the region was visited by the Headless Horseman, the wielder of the Spirit of Vengeance. In
1862, Tyrannus lead an invasion of Tyrannoids from Subterranea, bursting through the ground
interrupting a battle during the Civil War. In 1891, the Skrulls landed in the region to beginning an
clandestine invasion Earth. One of them took the form of Teddy Roosevelt.
At the end of the century Dr. Jonas Ravencroft, a descendant of Molly Ravencroft, founded a maximum-
security psychiatric facility on the spot where his ancestor had been murdered. The construction of the
facility was met with protest by the locals with a fire being started on the ground. One of the workers
claimed to have been told by Mephisto to cave the foreman head in with a hammer, but finally the
building was completed. He kept a journal of the region's dark history and the sinister occurrences that
transpired. Ravencroft's journal was buried in the building's foundations, where it was preserved for
centuries.

In 1909, Jonas continued to receive the country's most unusual patients, one being a man claiming to be
Sir Percy of Scandia. He also took on two new doctors; Dr. Nathaniel Essex from England and Dr. Claudia
Russell from Romania. Another patient was a man named Logan, who was being accused of being the
"Knickerbocker Knifer" serial killer. One of the orderlies came to confront the man, revealing himself to
be Victor Creed. He was stopped by Dr. Essex who wanted the man's arm. Later, Dr. Russel learned
about his treatment and tried to save him. She was confronted by Creed who tried to kill her, but she
turned into a werewolf and attacked. She was tranquilized by Dr. Essex, who sent a letter to Dr.
Ravencroft from Dr. Russel claiming to have resigned before vivisecting her in his experiments. Dr. Essex
eventually left the institute, but not before having created a hidden laboratory with countless unusual
specimens.

In 1918, they locked up the Master of World a man claiming to be a 40,000-year-old caveman, though
the doctors figured his age to more likely be around 40 years old. In 1923, a young Al Capone and Silas
Burr escaped from the institute. In 1932, a strange creature known only as the Skin Walker was brought
to the facility. During World War II, Weapon Plus commandeered the institute and began conducting
experiments on the inmates with the aid of Count Dracula - turning several of them into grotesque
vampiric monstrosities. When Captain America and Bucky Barnes attacked the institute looking for a
friend of theirs, Jonas Ravencroft unleashed the vampiric monsters on the Weapon Plus personnel
before committing suicide.

Towards the last quarter of the century Louise Kasady was sent to the institute and given un-sedated
electroshock therapy while pregnant; the apathetic doctors provided no assistance to her while she was
giving birth or her child Cletus when he was born with a nuchal cord.
