1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This specification covers the minimum requirements for fencing for the RAS GAS ONSHORE
EXPANSION PROJECT PHASE 2 (TRAIN 6&7 EPC) and AL KHALEEJ GAS PROJECT PHASE
2 (AKG-2 EPC).
1.2 All materials used and Work performed by CONTRACTOR shall be subject to acceptance by
COMPANY to ensure compliance with the design drawings and this specification.

1.3 Unless otherwise specified in the design drawings, CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for
securing all necessary On-Plot and Off-Plot (Ras Gas, RLIC, Qatar Gas) permits.

2.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

All Fencing work shall be performed in accordance with this Specification and the following
Specifications, Codes and Regulations and Industry Standards, which by being referenced shall
be a part of this specification. Local codes and regulations shall take precedence when they have
more stringent requirements. Latest edition at the time of contract award shall be used. When a
conflict exists between the various documents, the more stringent requirements shall govern.

3.0 GENERAL

3.1 Fences shall be installed in accordance with this specification, the design drawings and Fencing
Data sheet(s) attached hereafter.

3.2 CONTRACTOR shall submit the following documents for COMPANY’s approval:
1. Manufacturers catalogue and specification conforming to this specification

2. Manufacturers warranty

3. Shop Drawings including complete details of fence and gate construction, fence height, post
spacing, dimensions and unit weights of framework, schedule of components, and concrete
footing details

4. Two samples of fence fabric illustrating construction and finish

3.3 CONTRACTOR shall use existing survey monuments for horizontal and vertical alignment of the
fence. All surveying required to locate the final fence position is responsibility of CONTRACTOR.

3.4 Removal or alteration of permanent or temporary existing fencing will require substituting with
appropriate replacement fencing which meets this specifications to maintain security and integrity
at all times during the work schedule.

4.0 DESIGN

4.1 Fence design shall be in accordance with this specification, and Fencing Data Sheets, as
completed and which are included hereinafter.

4.2 Where fences are to run through drainage areas, culverts or troughs shall be provided to carry off
water. The resulting openings below the bottom of the fence shall be closed by proper barriers.
Each barrier shall allow the flow of water while minimizing the collection of debris. Barrier design
shall be subject to COMPANY approval and comply with local requirements.

4.3 Electrical substation fences shall be grounded in accordance with, and meet the requirements of
the relevant electrical specifications.

5.0 TYPE OF FENCING AND MATERIALS

5.1 Type of Fencing

5.1.1 Internal Security fencing (see fig. 1. For details)

Internal Security fencing shall be made of 5 mm carbon steel wire woven into 50 mm diamond
mesh. Nominal roll width for fencing shall be 2100mm.

5.1.2 Perimeter Fencing (See Fig. 5. For details)

A. Perimeter fencing shall be made of 5 mm carbon steel wire woven into 50 mm diamond
mesh. Nominal roll width for fencing shall be 2750 mm. Top edge of fencing shall be
protected by the addition of a single line of barbed wire.

B. The bottom edge of the chain link fencing shall be embedded in a continuous concrete curb
which shall be 150mm wide by 450 mm deep, and has its top face 50 mm above finished
grade level. The top face shall slope away form the chain link fencing on both sides, to shed
rainwater.

5.1.3 Electrical Substation Fencing (See Fig. 1. For details except barbed wires and extension arm)

Electrical substation fencing shall be made of 5 mm carbon steel wire woven into 50mm diamond
mesh. Nominal roll width for fencing shall be 1800 mm.

5.2 General Requirements for Materials

5.2.1 All materials shall be new. No used, re-rolled, or open seam material will be acceptable.

5.2.3 Gate fabric shall match fence fabric and shall be attached to the gate frame by stretcher bars.
The gate frames shall be properly braced and trussed in relation to their size to prevent sagging
and twisting. All joints shall be shop seal welded to provide watertight construction.

5.2.4 All component metal parts of permanent fence except barbed wire and wire fabric shall be hot-dip
galvanized with a minimum zinc coating of 0.90 kg/m 2 of surface. Barbed wire shall be hot dip
galvanized with a minimum zinc coating of 0.25 kg/m 2 and wire fabric shall be conformed to
ASTM A392, class 2 (e.g. 610 g/m 2).

5.2.5 The galvanizing for all bolts, washers, nuts, mesh screens, metal frames, fittings, barbed wire,
tension wire, stirrup wire, tie wires, wire fabric and metal components of the fence shall be done
by the hot-dip process and shall meet the requirements of ASTM A153.

5.2.6 Zinc coating for the fabric and the barbed wire shall conform to ASTM A392 and A121,
respectively.

5.3 Fabric

5.3.1 Fencing shall be made of industrial-type, corrosion resistant chain link fabric. All fabrics shall be
woven in 50 mm diamond mesh. Top and bottom salvages shall be twisted and barbed.

5.3.2 Chain link wire fabric shall be securely fastened to end, gate, corner and pull posts, using
stretcher bars and 5 mm minimum pressed steel bands filled with carriage bolts and nuts and
spaced approximately 350 mm apart. Fabric shall be fastened to line posts with 5 mm steel wire
clips spaced approximately 350 mm apart, to top rail, top tension wire, and bracing with 4 mm
steel tie wires spaced approximately 600 mm apart, and to bottom tension wire with steel rings
3.15 mm on 600 mm centers.

5.4 Tension Wire

Tension wire shall be of 5 mm low carbon steel (mild steel) or 3.15 mm high tensile wire in
accordance with BS 4102. Tension wire shall be stretched on the posts before fabric is installed
and tied securely to the posts. Bottom tension wire shall be located approximately 75 mm above
finished grade. However, for perimeter fence, bottom tension wire shall be located approximately
25 mm above top of curb. Top tension wire shall be spaced midway between top rail and finished
grade, extending between braces on line posts.

5.5 Barbed Wire

All barbed wires shall consist of two twisted 2.5 mm diameter wires carrying four-point barbs of
2.0 mm diameter wire on 125 mm spacing conforming to the requirement of ASTM A121. Barbed
wire shall be provided for internal security and perimeter fence.

5.6 Top Rail

Top rail shall be hollow steel pipe 33.7 x 4 HFCHS (Hot-Finished Circular Hollow Section)
minimum, conforming to the requirements of BS 4848, Part 2 and BS 4360 Grade 43C, provided
with pressed steel couplings approximately every 6 m. Couplings shall be outside sleeve type and
shall be at least 5mm long. One coupling in every 5 shall have a heavy spring to compensate for
expansion and contraction of the top rail. Top rail shall pass through base of line post tops and
shall form a continuous brace from end to end of each stretch of fence. Top rail shall be securely
fastened to end, corner, pull and gate posts pressed steel connections.

5.7 Stretcher Bars

Stretcher bars shall be mild steel bars one piece with a length equal to the full height of fabric and
a minimum cross section of 5 mm x 25 mm. One stretcher bar threaded through fabric shall be
provided for each gate and end post, and two for each corner and pull post.

5.8 Posts

5.8.1 Line posts shall be installed at intervals not exceeding 3.0 m.

5.8.2 Terminal posts (end and corner) shall be installed at the beginning and end of each continuous
length of fence and at abrupt changes in vertical and horizontal alignments.

5.8.3 Intermediate pull posts shall be installed on long stretches of fence at intervals not exceeding 152
meters.

5.8.4 Corner, end and pull posts shall be hollow steel pipe conforming to the requirements of BS 4848
Part 2, and BS 4360 Grade 43C. For perimeter fence, posts shall be 89.2 x 4.0 HFCHS minimum.
For other type of fence, posts shall be 60.3 x 5.0 HFCHS minimum. Pull posts are required for
each 69 m length of straight fence and where a change of 15 degrees or more in either grade or
direction occurs. For internal security and perimeter fence, all posts shall be provided with
moisture-proof extension arms.

5.8.5 Line posts shall be hollow steel pipe conforming to the requirements of BS 4848 Part 2, and BS
4360 Grade 43C. For perimeter fence, line posts shall be 60.3 x 4.0 HFCHS minimum, and for all
other fence, line posts shall be 48.3 x 5.0 HFCHS minimum. For internal security and perimeter
fence, line posts shall be provided with moisture-proof extension arms.

5.8.6 Pressed steel or malleable iron moisture-proof caps shall be provided on pipe posts, which are
not fitted with extension arms.

5.9 Gates

5.9.1 Gate posts shall be hollow steel pipe, conforming to the requirements of BS 4848 Part 2 and BS
4360 Grade 43C. The minimum sized of posts shall be in accordance with the following list:

5.9.2 Gate frames shall be constructed of hollow steel pipe, conforming to the requirements of BS 4848
Part 2 and BS 4360 Grade 43C. Gate frame member sizes shall be in accordance with BS 1722
Part 1, Table 6. Corner fittings shall be constructed of heavy pressed steel or malleable iron
castings. Gate fabric shall match fence fabric and shall be attached to the frame by stretcher
bars. The frames shall be properly braced and trussed in relation to their size to prevent sagging
and twisting. All joints shall be welded to provide watertight construction.

5.9.3 Gates for internal security fencing and perimeter fencing shall be provided with barbed wire.

5.9.4 Gate Hardware

The following hardware and accessories shall be provided for each gate.

A. Hinges: Pressed steel or malleable iron to suit gate size, non lift-off type, offset to
permit 180 degree gate opening. A minimum of 1 pair of hinges shall be
provided for each leaf.

B. Latch: Forked type or plunger-bar type to permit operation from either side of gate. A
padlock eye shall be provided as an integral part of latch.

C. Keeper: A keeper shall be provided for all vehicle gates. The keeper shall
automatically engage the gate leaf and hold it in the open position until
manually released.

D. Double Gate: Gate stops shall be provided for all double gates. The stops shall be of
mushroom type or shall be flush plate with anchors. Gate stops shall be set in
concrete to engage the center drop rod or plunger bar. A locking device and
padlock eye shall be provided as an integral part of the latch, requiring one
padlock for locking both gate leaves.

5.10 Braces

Braces shall be the same size and material as the top rail. Braces shall be spaced midway
between the top rail and the finished grade. They shall extend from end, pull, corner or gate post
to the first adjacent line post. Braces shall be securely fastened to posts by suitable pressed steel
connections, then trussed from line post back to the base of an end, pull, corner or gate post with
10 mm round rod fitted with a turnbuckle. Post braces shall be provided at each end and gate
post. In addition, pull and corner posts shall be braced in both directions.

5.11 Extension Arms

Extension arms and fittings shall be malleable iron or pressed steel. Extension arms shall be
integral with a weather tight closure cap for posts and shall carry 3 barbed wires at an angle of 45
degrees to the inside of the property. Extension arms for use on gates, gate posts and pull posts
next to freestanding gate posts shall be straight. Topmost wire of extension arms which are
inclined at 45 degrees shall be approximately 300 mm horizontally away from the fence line and
the other wires shall be equally spaced between the top of the fence fabric and the top barbed
wire. Barbed wires shall be securely fastened to extension arms. Arms shall be capable of
withstanding a 1.5 KN downward pull at the outermost end of the arm.

5.12 Foundation

5.12.1 Concrete

All concrete materials, mix and construction shall be in accordance with the project specification
RG6-S-00-1320-903 “Concrete Materials, Mix, Construction and Piling”. Concrete for the fencing
and gate foundation shall be of plain concrete.

5.12.2 Footings shall be cylindrical in shape with a top of concrete being 50 mm above finished grade as
measured at the post and sloping away from the post with at least a 12 mm drop.

5.12.3 The minimum footing dimensions shall be as given in Table 1. The depth shall be measured from
finished grade to bottom of concrete. The bottom of concrete shall be at least 100 mm below the
bottom of the line post and 150 mm below the bottom of the corner/end post, pull post and gate
post.
