Kate Lawless was a student in my Issues in Native Education course offered at the
University of Lethbridge during the Spring semester of 2020. In this class we discussed
the historical and current issues surrounding Native students, as well as teaching models,
strategies and philosophies appropriate for engaging with them and the Blackfoot Ways
of Knowing.

Kate was an ‘A’ student in my class and demonstrated great engagement with the course
content. Her responses showed her reflective teaching practice, as she often made
connections beyond the subject matter, considering their implications on her future
teaching pedagogy. Her summaries of the government documents and articles assigned
were thorough and showed deep understanding of the content and their connotations to
her future students. She has demonstrated high competency in meeting the TQS 5
requirement as set out.
