The Rules and Regulations governing the B.Sc. Degree


course in Visual Communication are to be followed as per the
Operational Guidelines for Under-graduate degree courses (for
those admitted in June 2016 and later) which was approved in the
32nd meeting of Academic Council held on 28-02-2015.

I. COURSE OBJECTIVES
To enable the students to
i. understand the concept of visual literacy
ii. think visually
iii. study the importance of visual learning
iv. learn the basics of various media
v. develop practical skills to communicate using various media
vi. professionally appreciate media

II. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION


Candidates seeking admission into the B. Sc. Degree Course in Visual
Communication must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination, conducted by the
Board of Higher Secondary Education, Government of Tamil Nadu or any other Examination
accepted by the syndicate of the Madurai Kamaraj University as its equivalent.

V5C17 INTERNSHIP REPORT
(For those admitted in June 2016 and later)

RULES GOVERNING ON THE INTERNSHIP REPORT

1. Each student should undergo fifteen days ‘On the Job Training’ during the fourth
semester summer vacation. If a student fails to undergo the training program on
medical grounds/due to lack of attendance of the college during IV semester, he/she
should undergo the same duration in the sixth semester summer vacation, after getting
prior permission from the Principal with the recommendation of the Head of the
Department and Controller of Examinations (UG). In such case, the training report
should be submitted within a month after the completion of the ‘On the Job Training’.

2. The Student shall undergo the above training program in any one the media like
Newspaper, Television station, Advertising Agency, Radio Station, Local TV
Channel, or any other institution approved by the department. The list of institutions
meant for ‘On the Job Training’ will be prepared by the department covering
Institution Organizations found to be worthy for imparting training.

3. Each Student has to submit two copies of the ‘On the Job Training’ report in not less
than 20 type written pages for the training undergone during fourth semester summer
vacation within a month of the reopening of the college in the fifth semester. The
training report should not have been submitted elsewhere for any other certificate,
diploma or degree course.

4. In case of failure to submit the report within the above stipulated period, the date of
submission shall be extended by 15 days with a late fee as prescribed by the Principal.
Further extension, if necessary, shall be granted by the College Council on special
request.

5. The ‘On the Job Training’ report shall be evaluated for a total of 100 marks, out of
which 60 marks shall be allotted to the training program to be evaluated by his/her
Training Supervisor and 40 marks to the training to be evaluated by the Department.

6. A Student should secure a minimum of 24 marks in the training program and 16


marks in the training report to qualify for a pass in the ‘On the Job Training’.

7. If any candidate indulges in malpractice while attending the training program or fails
to secure a minimum pass mark in the Training Program as evaluated by the Training
Supervisor, his/her report will not be considered for the evaluation by the Department.
In that case, he/she has to undergo ‘On the Job Training’ program once again for a
period of 15 days at the end of the sixth semester and submit the training report within
a period of month after completion of the training program.

8. If any candidate fails to secure a minimum pass mark in the On the Job Training
Report as evaluated by the department, the candidate has to resubmit after carrying
out the suggestion given by the department within a month after the publication of
Fifth Semester results.

8 CREDITS
RULES GOVERNING THE EVALUATION OF PROJECT AND VIVA VOCE
1 Students can select a problem of their choice pertaining to their course, individually
or in group (not exceeding three) in consultation with the Head of the Department.

2 The project report should be submitted on or before the last working day of the sixth
semester to the Controller of Examinations (U.G) through the Head of the
Department.

3 If a student fails to submit the project report within the stipulated time, the candidate
can submit the same within a month from the last working day, after paying the late
fee prescribed by the Principal.

4 Each student has to submit one copy of his/her project report for evaluation.

5 The project report shall contain a minimum of 20 pages excluding bibliography and
appendices.

6 The project report will be valued for a total of 80 marks out of which the external
examiner and guide share 40 marks each. The sum of marks awarded by both the
examiners will be considered to be the final mark. For a pass in the project report, the
student should secure a minimum of 32 marks. If a student fails to secure 32 marks in
the evaluation of project report, he/she may be permitted to resubmit his/her project
report once again after incorporating the necessary correction as suggested by the
Examiner within a period of six months from the date of publication of the results of
the Examinations.

7 For those candidates who have qualified in the evaluation of the project report, there
will be a viva-voce on the above. The viva-voce carries a maximum of 20 marks and it
will be conducted jointly by the guide and the external examiner. The student should
secure a minimum of 8 marks in the viva-voce failing which he/she shall be required
to reappear for the viva-voce after a month from the date of viva-voce already
conducted but within a period of three months for which he/she will have to pay a fee
as prescribed by the Principal.

8 For a pass in this paper as a whole, a student should secure a minimum of 40 marks in
Project report and viva-voce put together.
