Discussion

Based from the graph that have been obtained at 100%, the curve of the efficiency
increase with time at the capacity (L/m 3) range between 0 to 150 , then the efficiency
curve starts to decrease and increase unstable with the capacity. The water head graph
curve decrease with capacity. The bigger the capacity the smaller the water head
value. For the shaft power vs capacity graph, the shaft power increase with capacity.
The bigger the capacity will requires bigger shaft power. For the 50% and 75% speed
the curve of the graph show same pattern with 100% speed but with lower value. The
best operating range for the pump is at capacity of 100(L/m 3) and with 100% speed
and shaft power if 0.7BHP.

From the graph obtained, we can see that the efficiency curve will start to increase at
the capacity 0 to 150 (L/m 3). The shaft power is directly proportional to the capacity
as bigger capacity will requires bigger powers. The higher the speed of the pump it
will produce higher efficiency. Next action can be made to increase the efficiency of
the system is only run one pump for a system. As the viscosity of the fluid increases
the head developed by the pump decreases and the efficiency decrease. So use fluid
with low viscosity to reduce fluid friction in a system.

Based on the shaft vs capacity graph, the curve shows that shaft power is directly
proportional to the capacity. As the higher the shaft power work the bigger the
capacity can be transmitted. The shaft power in centrifugal pump system enables the
students to calculate the efficiency of the pump. The efficiency then needed to
calculate the flow rate. Therefore, speed of the pump may give different result on the
efficiency of the pump. Suitable speed of the pump are at 100% speed as it gives the
highest efficiency by referring to the graph.
Conclusion

After completing this report we are able to conclude that this experiment are going
successfully. The objectives of this experiment has been achieved with the help of
instructor and lecturers. The video that instructor upload really help us to conduct this
experiment.

The conclusion that we can made from this experiment is the higher the speed of the
pump it will reflect on the efficiency and and amount of shaft power needed. The
higher the speed of the shaft the higher the efficiency but at a certain value the
efficiency starts to decrease. So, the maximum operating condition is at 100% pump
speed where the efficiency is at 55.51% at 163 L/m3.

However, this experiment was not conducted at a standardize condition. Therefore a

perfect value could not be achieved due to some unavoidable factor such as human
error, apparatus error, and zero error. The centrifugal pump may have some error as
the curve of the graph show unstable results after some value of speed.

Overall all the groupmates perform their task very well to make sure that we can find
the result and achieved new findings.
