LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS IN MATHEMATICS
Grade 4
First Quarter
Week 6 , Day 2

I. Activity Title: Dividing 3-to-4-Digit Numbers by Tens or Hundreds or by 1000 without

and with Remainder.
II. MELC : divides mentally 3-to-4-digit numbers by tens or hundreds or by 1000
without and with remainder , (M4NS-If-54.4)

III. In this activity you will learn to:

a. recognize the pattern or method of dividing numbers by tens, hundreds or
thousands
b. solve numbers by dividing mentally 3-to-4-digit numbers by tens, hundreds or
by 1000s with and without remainder
c. display confidence in solving the exercises
IV. Introduction:

When dividing a number by 10, 100, or 1000 without remainder, you cancel or
remove as many zeros in the dividend as there are in the divisor. The remaining digit in
the dividend is the quotient.
In dividing 3-to-4-digit numbers by 10 with remainder, the last digit in the
dividend is the remainder while the remaining digits represent the quotient.
In dividing 3-to-4-digit numbers by 100, the last two digits of the dividend is the
remainder while the remaining digits represent the quotient.
In dividing 3-to-4-digit numbers by 1000, the last three digits of the dividend is
the remainder while the remaining digits represent the quotient.

V. Discussion and Examples:

TASK 1 (Without Remainder)

(Read & Solve the Problem)

Kathleen helped her mother repack 2000 canned goods to be given to 100
families who were affected by a lockdown in their barangay. How many canned
goods will each family receive?

*What is asked in the problem? The number of canned goods each family
receives.
*What are the given facts? 2000 canned goods and 100 families
*What operation will be used to solve the problem? Division
*Number sentence: 2000 ÷ 100 = N
Solution 1: (Long Method)
Solution 2: (Short Method)
20
100
divisor→ |2000 ←dividend 2000 ÷ 100 = 20
-200 2000 ÷ 100 = 20
00
-0
0
*Answer: Each family receives 20 canned goods.

→ Did we have the same quotient in the two methods used?

How is the short method done? What pattern is being used?
***To divide numbers by 10, 100, 1000, cancel/remove as many zeros in the
dividend as there are in the divisor. The remaining digit in the dividend is the quotient.

TASK 2 (With Remainder)

How many 1000-peso bills are there in Php9,875?

*To solve: Php9,875 ÷ 1000 = N

Solution 1: (Long Method) Solution 2: (Short Method)

9 9875 ÷ 1000 = 9 r.875

1000 9875 ÷ 1000 = 9 r.875
divisor→ |9875
←dividend →there are three zeros in the divisor (1000)
- 9000 →the last three digits in the dividend (875) is the
remainder.
875 ← remainder
→the remaining digit 9 represents the quotient.
ANSWER: 9 r.875
ANSWER: 9 r.875

The number of digits in the remainder is equal to the number of zeros in the divisor.

Study the following number sentence:

2475 ÷ 10 = 247 r.5 8936 ÷ 10 = 893 r.6
2475 ÷ 100 = 24 r.75 8936 ÷ 100 = 89 r.36
2475 ÷ 1000 = 2 r.475 8936 ÷ 1000 = 8 r.936
