Leader: Sign of the Cross

Introduction:
Leader: O Lord, our God, we affirm with all of creation that you have made us and that
you sustain us each day by your word and that your loving kindness toward us
endures forever. We come before you in the morning and are warmed by your
presence. With these manifestations of your goodness and your grace we give thanks
for the bounty you provide each day and for the help that comes from your hand. We
are grateful that you have invited us to participate in your life and in your work in this
world. We give ourselves to the promptings of your Holy Spirit as we seek to do your
will this day. May all that we do be an offering in the name of Jesus.
R/Amen.
Liturgy of the Word
A reading form the Letter of Paul to Timothy
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth

there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,
will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his
appearing.

R.) I love you, Lord, my strength.

I love you, Lord, my strength, my rock, my fortress, my saviour. My God is the rock
where I take refuge; my shield, my mighty help, my stronghold. The Lord is worthy of
all praise; when I call I am saved from my foes. (R.)

Long life to the Lord, my rock! Praised be the God who saves me. He has given great

Gospel
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
R/ Glory to you, O Lord

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to

Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test
him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “It
would take more than half a year’s wages [a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a
bite!”8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a
boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so
many?”10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that
place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the
loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted.
He did the same with the fish.12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his
disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they
gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left
over by those who had eaten.

The Gospel of the Lord.

R/ Thanks be to God.
