The DISP board contains LCD interface circuit and power switching regulator circuit. The LCD
interface circuit converts the analogue R, G, B signals, inputted from Transceiver Unit, into six
bit digital R, G, B signals with A/D converter and outputs them to the LCD unit. H-SYNC, V-
SYNC, and CLK (dot clock) signals inputted from the Transceiver Unit are also applied to the
LCD Unit through the LCD Interface circuit. The power switching regulator circuit generates 5V
for digital circuit, AD5V for the A/D converter, and 12V for the LCD inverter board.

The LCD unit consists of LCD module (10.4 inch's screen, TTF color LCD), LCD control board
and fluorescent lamp for back-lighting.

The LCD inverter board generates high voltage for the fluorescent lamp, and it's pulse length is
controlled by the YC signal from the transceiver unit for controlling the brightness of LCD.

Receiver Circuit
The received signal from the PRA board is applied to the wide band filter circuit and mixed with
a carrier signal "LCL" to convert into the IF signal (455 kHz) by the MIXER. The carrier signal
for the MIXER is generated in the CPU board in accordance with the frequency settings on the
PRA board. The IF signal is amplified by the IF amplifier in accordance with the GAIN/TVG
setting in the control unit and rectified by the rectifier. The rectified signal is sent to the CPU
board and simultaneously applied to the AGC amplifier to control the gain control signal "VG"
in accordance with the echo level.

Audio Amplifier Circuit

The IF signal output of receiver circuit is also applied to the audio amplifier circuit to drive the
audio speaker.

2. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
2.1 Transmitting
See the transmitting signal flow shown in the figure 2.1.
The transmission signal is generated in the CPU board (06P0240) and amplified in the TRX board
(06P0241). The output of the transmission amplifier is impedance-matched with the transducer by
the matching transformer on the PRA board (06P0246) and then applied to the transducer via the
slip-ring in the soundom.
The +B voltage supplied by the PWR board (06P0242) determines the transmitting output level in
accordance with the menu settings in the display unit and frequency settings on the PRA board
(06P0246).

Transmission Output Level

Table 2.1 shows the transmission levels and their control voltages on each transmission frequency
unit, when the output level selection on the Menu is "High".

2.2 Receiving
See the receiving signal flow shown in the figure 2.2.
The echo signal received by the transducer is amplified by the Pre-Amplifier board and mixed with
the local carrier signal by the MIXER U2 in order to convert the frequency into IF frequency (455
kHz). The IF signal is outputted to the IF amplifier "Q3/Q1" and the amplifier "U1".
The output of the amplifier is buffered by the Q5 and rectified by the CR9/CR8, and then outputted
to the CPU board from the J3 #1.

The gain control voltage named TVG ( time varied gain ), whose level is 0 to 5 VDC, is generated
in the CPU board and reshaped to 0.5 - 1.5 VDC signal, named "VG", by the U5 on the TRX board;
0.5 V at min. gain and 1.5 V at max. gain. The "VG" is applied to the QI/Q3 of the IF amplifier and
the Q8 at the first stage of the amplifier of receiving circuit so as to control the amplitude according
to the range.

The output signal rectified by the U7 is also sent to the AGC amplifier circuit to control the VG
level in order to suppress the amplitude of the Q1/Q3/Q8 according to the received signal level.

The rectified output of the TRX board is converted into a serial digital data by the A/D converter
"U35" and applied to the Gate Array "U30" on the CPU board.
The output signal of the Gate Array is converted into the R/G/B signal and sent to the Display Unit
from J1 #1, #2, #3.

2-3
Figure 2.2 Receiving signal flow
2.3 Raise/Lowering
See the raise/lowering control circuit in figure 2.3.
The raise/lowering of the Soundome is operated by the DC motor at the hull unit.
The raise/lowering commands set on the control panel are transferred through the CPU
communication line between the PNL board in the control unit and the CPU board in the transceiver
unit. The CPU on the CPU board generates RL CONT signal, when raise/lowering commands are
received, to control the relay K2 on the DRV board. The relay K2 alternates the rotating direction of
the raise/lowering motor. The RL CONT signal is also applied to the control circuit of the relay K1
on the DRV board.
When the relay K1 is on, the raise/lowering motor activates. When the relay K1 is off, it deactivates
the raise/lowering motor and makes short circuit simultaneously between the source terminals of the
motor through the resister "R47".
The resister R47 absorbs the motor current to brake it, when the motor is deactivated.

Two limit switches, upper and lower, are mounted at hull body. ON/OFF status of both limit
switches are applied to the control circuit of the relay K1 to stop the raise/lowering motor; when
either limit switch is kicked, it becomes ON condition and deactivates the relay K1 to stop the
raise/lowering motor. The status of the limit switches are also sent to the CPU on the CPU board to
control the upper/lower LED indicators on the control panel.

2.4 Training Transducer

See the train control circuit shown in the figure 2.4.
The transducer rotated by the train motor "bipolar pulse motor" which is driven by 90 degree phase
shifted pulses; TRM1 and TRM2. The TRM1/TRM2 are generated by the CPU on the CPU board
when train switch is operated, and received by the photo couplers U5 on the DRV board. The
outputs of U5 activate the motor drive circuits composed by the Power MOS FET "Q5/Q6", so that
the train motor rotates in clockwise or counterclockwise. The drain voltage "Vtr" of these Power
MOS FET is supplied from the Q18 of the power circuit on the same board. The Q18 conducts only
when the motor drive pulses are obtained by the train pulse detector circuit, so that the source
voltage +VM(14V) is applied to the Q5 and Q6 directly.

The heading of the transducer is detected by the photo interrupter which senses a slit of the rotary
disc fitted to the train shaft. At the moment when the slit of the disc passes the gap of the photo
interrupter, a positive pulse is generated by the photo interrupter and sent to the CPU on the CPU
board in order to synchronize the heading of echo presentation with transducer's heading.
Type of Train Motor
Train motor " J262-146N (06S4227-1)" is used for the Soundome whose S-no. is 1000 and after.
Train motor " CS42 15 ohm (06S4227-0)" is used for the Soundome whose S-no. is 999 and before. The menu
setting in the SYSTEM SETTING 2 should meet to the motor type used. For example when CS42 is replaced
with J262-146N, The setting of SOUNDOME SER.NO in the SYSTEM SETTING 2 should be 1000.

2.5 Tilting Transducer

See the tilt control circuit shown in the figure 2.5.
The transducer is tilted by the tilt motor "bipolar pulse motor" fitted on the transducer component.
The tilt motor is controlled in the same manner as the train motor.

Initializing and counting the tilt angle

When turn on the power, the CPU on the CPU board generates the tilt clocks for tilting 180 degrees
upward at power- up and rotates the tilt-motor till the transducer is jammed at +5 degree position to
set the initial position of the transducer. After generating 180 degree pulses, the transducer is tilted
at the position set on the control panel. The tilt angle of the transducer is determined with the
number of pulses to tilt the transducer from +5 degrees.
The same initializing is performed when closing the system menu screen.

When the power switch on the control panel is pressed, the lines PSW H and PSW C conduct and
then the switching regulator circuit on the PWR board in the transceiver unit starts.
The PWR board generates 5/12/-5 VDC to the CPU board and TRX board in the transceiver unit.
The +5 V named PWRON is supplied to the switching regulator on the DRV board in the hull
control box for starting up. Also the 12VDC from the PWR board, named 12VA, is supplied to the
display unit. The switching regulator on the DISP board in the Display Unit activates with 12VA
received.
