Happy Veterans Day!

On behalf of the USHLI Board of Directors and staff, I want to

wish America’s 17 million veterans a very Happy Veterans Day! Our
veterans include both men (15.78 million) and women (1.64 million).
Veterans Day was actually called Armistice Day when it was established
on November 11, 1919, on the first anniversary marking the end of
World War I. Today is the 101st anniversary of this very special day.
Veterans are those who left everything and everyone to answer the
nation’s highest calling – to serve in the U.S. military.
Most Americans know one or more veterans who are still living, or
who passed away over the years. In 2000, we had 5.7 million veterans
who served in World War II. Today, just under 500,000 are still
living. World War II veterans are dying at the rate of 1,000 per day.
Sadly, the number of U.S. veterans declined from 26.4 million in 2000 to
18 million in 2018.
We should all make an effort today to contact a veteran and let him or
her know that we appreciate their service. I would also respectfully urge
everyone who can give, to make a donation to a non-profit organization
that is providing much needed services to veterans, thousands of whom
are much in need of food, clothing, housing, and basic medical care.
