5. WHY ISN’T THERE A LOT OF SOLO VIOLA REPERTOIRE

b. Most violists were former violinists and were not completely trusted by composers
6. Bach, Mozart, etc wrote occasional solos or concert works for the viola, but Berlioz as
recognized one of the first composers to give the viola independent voice writing (1800s)
