Introduction
INTRODUCTION
The NCR SelfServ 81 is a free‐standing interior ATM with optional sidecars. The unit is
highly configurable and is designed to be further customised when integrated into the
customer’s premises.
The installation guide contains all the necessary information to install the SelfServ 81
ATM and also provides links to the modular guides, listed below.

Introduction
Safety Information
CAUTION
Slide/rail mounted equipment must not be used as a shelf or a work
space.
Site Preparation
Prior to the final siting of the ATM, and before installing, ensure that the installation site
conforms to the specifications given in the publication, NCR SelfServ 81 ATM Site
Preparation (B006‐7589) or NCR SelfServ 81 IAT Site Preparation (B006‐7730) as
appropriate. In particular, make sure that the floor/plinth has been prepared and the
securing bolt holes drilled as detailed in the above publication.
Device Configuration
Device configuration is carried out using the System Application. Refer to the NCR
publication, Self‐Service Support System Application User Guide (B006‐6167).
System Initialization
After completing the installation and configuration of the ATM, refer to publication, Self‐
Service Support, System Application User Guide (B006‐6167), for details of system
initialization.
The user guide is updated frequently, therefore it is recommended that you check on the
following NCR Intranet site to ensure you have the latest version. If you are unable to get
access to the NCR Intranet, contact your local support representative for help.

Introduction
Tools Required for Installation
When installing your ATM it is recommended that you have the following items
available:
 Pincers/claw hammer to remove staples/nails from around the pallet
 Scissors
 Small flat blade screwdriver
 Flat blade screwdriver with 175 mm (7 in.) long blade
 Small cross head screwdriver
 Number 1 and number 2 Pozi drive screwdriver
 24 mm (15/16 in.) ring/open‐ended combination spanner and socket for M16
security fixing bolts
 17 mm (11/16 in.) ring/open‐ended combination spanner and socket for M10
securing bolts and sidecar levelling feet
 13 mm (17/32 in.) ring/open‐ended combination spanner and socket for M8 securing
bolts
 10 mm (3/8 in.) ring/open‐ended combination spanner and socket for M6 securing
bolts
 Hex nut driver set (including M3, M4 and M6 sizes).
 Lifting/moving device. Lifting trolleys must have a maximum toe plate length of
380 mm (15.0 in.) and a minimum toe plate width of 120 mm (4.72 in.)
 Packing to protect the exterior of the ATM while on trolleys.
Moving the ATM
The SelfServ 81 base unit and sidecars are shipped on separate pallets. Move the pallets
to their approximate installation points using either a forklift or lifting trolleys. To avoid
damage to the products and to the premises, the ATM and sidecars should be moved
with their packaging intact.
Details of the ATM and sidecar dimensions, weights, packaging dimensions and
clearances required for moving the products in a confined space can be found in the Site
Preparation manual.

Preparing the ATM for Installation
PREPARING THE ATM FOR INSTALLATION
Removing the External Packaging
Before removing the external packaging, examine it for signs of damage which may have
occurred during transit. Make a note of any external damage for inclusion in a damage
report. See Installation Report Form for more details.
When the ATM and sidecars have been moved to their approximate position for
installation, remove the external packaging as follows:
Note: Take care not to damage the products when removing the packaging.
1. Remove the straps banding the carton and pallet.
2. Lever out the staples from the base of the carton and remove them.
3. Lift the carton off the product, or if necessary due to restricted height, carefully cut
the carton walls to allow them to be separated and pulled away from the pallet.
4. If a SEET (sealed foil) bag is fitted, remove any accessory cartons from the outside of
the bag, carefully cutting the strapping or tape as necessary. Cut the sealed SEET bag
around the bottom, then remove from the ATM.
5. Remove any other accessory cartons, by carefully cutting any strapping or tape.
6. If fitted, carefully remove the plastic dust cover bag covering the product.
7. Carefully remove the tape securing the plastic accessories bag containing the keys to
the ATM.
8. Remove all pieces of foam, bubble wrap, and tape from around the exterior of the
ATM.

Inspecting the ATM for Damage
After unpacking the ATM, inspect them for any signs of damage. If damage is found, a
report should be made in accordance with the following procedures:
 Report the product as damaged on the carrier’s Bill of Lading and/or delivery receipt
providing detailed information of the damage, such as:
 Shortage
 Water damage
 Pilferage
 Other
 Contact the responsible Customer Delivery Partner (CDP), Delivery Coordinator (DC),
or Implementation Coordinator (IC) to report the damage.
 Forward a copy of the delivery receipt and/or Bill of Lading to the responsible CDP,
DC, IC, and In‐Country Freight Claim Representative or Freight Claim Region
Coordinator.
Installation Report Form
The Installation Report Form delivered with the ATM should always be completed and
returned. Make sure that you report any problems in the following areas:
 Malfunction of the ATM or any of its devices
 Internal or external defects arising as a result of handling or transit damage
 Missing or damaged accessories. All the accessories should be fitted to the
appropriate feature inside the product.
Removing the ATM and Sidecars from the Pallets
Use a pair of lifting trolleys to remove the ATM from the pallet, and a single trolley or
portable lifter for the sidecars.
1. From the under‐side of the pallet, use a 17 mm (11/16 in.) spanner and socket or
socket wrench to loosen the bolts extending through to the bottom of the ATM or
sidecar.
2. Remove the bolts securing the unit to the pallet:
a For the ATM: Remove the ‘C’ washers, then remove the bolts and sleeves.
b For the sidecar(s): Remove the bolts and washers.
3. Position the lifting trolley(s) on either side of the pallet and insert the toes of the
trolleys under the ATM or sidecar.

4. Strap the trolley(s) to the ATM or sidecar, inserting packing where necessary to
protect the paintwork and to prevent movement.
5. Pump up both trolleys to lift the ATM or sidecar clear of the pallet then slide the
pallet out from underneath.
WARNING
Support blocks must always be used when the ATM or sidecar is
supported by a lifting device and work is to be done underneath.
6. Move the ATM or sidecar to its installation site.
Note: If the ATM is being installed within a minimum service clearance, the external
cables should be inserted through the cable entry hole in the side of the ATM before
it is in its final location, due to limited side clearance. See Connecting the ATM Cables
for details.
7. Using the lifting trolleys, position the ATM or sidecar onto the floor or plinth so that
the holes in the base of the security enclosure line up with the fixing holes in the floor
or plinth.
8. Carefully remove the ATM or sidecar from the trolleys.
CAUTION
When moving the ATM do not tilt or apply force to the top‐box as
this may damage the ATM. Any force should be applied to the lower
cabinet.

Installing the ATM
INSTALLING THE ATM
Bolting Down the ATM
For safety and to meet security standards, the ATM must be bolted to the floor through
all of the bolt holes, using the bolts and anchor washers specified in the Site Preparation
manual. The bolts are not provided with the ATM; they must be supplied by the owning
organisation.
To bolt the ATM to the floor, proceed as follows:
1. Open the security enclosure.
2. Remove the internal packaging from around the safe modules then rack them out
until their slides are fully extended. Refer to the “Removing the Internal Packaging”
section for information on internal packaging.
3. Bolt the ATM to the floor or plinth using four securing bolts and washers at the four
holes in the base of the security enclosure.
4. Close and lock the security enclosure.
5. If you are fitting a sidecar to the right‐hand side of the ATM (viewed from the front)
feed any additional ATM cables into the security enclosure at this point in the
installation procedure, because access to the cable entry hole will be more difficult
when the sidecar is in place. See Connecting the ATM Cables for details.
6. Pull each cassette out of the dispenser, then remove the accessories package from
inside each cassette.

Installing the Sidecar(s)
INSTALLING THE SIDECAR(S)
Re‐configuring a Sidecar to Fit on Left
Slim and standard sidecars are by default configured to fit to the right‐hand side of the
ATM (viewed from the front). If a standard or slim sidecar is be fitted on the left‐hand
side, it needs to be re‐configured as follows, otherwise proceed to “Fitting a Sidecar”:
1. Rack the modules in the sidecar out slightly to disengage them from the entry/exit
slots.
2. Remove and retain the two screws at the base of the front panel of the sidecar then
pull the front panel down and slightly out to partially remove it. Disconnect the
entry/exit slot MEI harnesses and the scanner cables if the ID scanner is fitted, then
fully remove the panel from the sidecar.

3. Remove and retain the screw securing the cable entry blanking plate to the front
right‐hand side of the sidecar. Remove and retain the blanking plate.
4. Remove the grommet from the left‐hand cable entry hole and fit it to the right‐hand
cable entry hole.
5. Re‐route the sidecar cabling out of right‐hand cable entry hole.
6. Tidy and secure the cabling within the sidecar, using cable ties.
7. Fit the retained blanking plate to the left‐hand cable entry hole.

Fitting a Sidecar
Note: If the sidecar is to be fitted to the left‐hand side of the base unit (as viewed from
front), it must first be re‐configured as described in the previous section.
1. Unlock and open the fascia.
2. Remove and retain the four countersink head screws securing the rear panel and
door assembly to the mid box. Remove and retain the rear panel and door assembly.

3. Slide the mid box top panel towards the rear and lift it off the six mushroom head
studs.
4. Remove and retain the two screws at the base of the front panel on the sidecar. Slide
the front panel down and remove it from the sidecar.

5. Partially fit two M6 screws (from the accessories bag, taped inside the sidecar) in the
side of the side box to align with the keyhole slots in the bracket on the side of the
base unit.
Keyhole slots
6. With the sidecar placed beside the base unit, route the harness ends from the side
box through the gap in the base unit bracket.
CAUTION
Due to the weight of the sidecar, lifting it may require two people or
preferably a portable lifter.
7. Lift the sidecar and attach it to the base unit by locating the sidecar screws into the
keyhole slots in the bracket. Take care not to trap or damage the harnessing where it
passes between the sidecar and the base unit. Tighten the two screws in the keyhole
slot. Further secure with two more M6 screws.

8. Secure the sidecar to the base unit with two M6 screws, using the highest and lowest
of the four screw holes inside of the sidecar.
Note that depending on which modules are in the sidecar, some of the screw holes
may be obscured, in which case use the highest and lowest accessible holes.
9. If a portable lifter was used lower it and remove.
10 Remove the turnaround plug from the ATM auto‐supervisor harness (SUPERVISOR‐L
or SUPERVISOR‐R) in the base unit harness channel and connect the harness to the
sidecar auto‐supervisor harness (AUTOSUPV_SIDECAR). Connect the 24V (flying
connector leads on both the base unit and sidecar) and MEI connectors.

11. Remove the M6 screw on the base unit grounding point and refit it with the sidecar
ground connector.
12. Route the USB cables to the hub(s) above the pc core:
 left‐hand sidecar: through the aperture on the left of the base unit topbox
 right‐hand sidecar: through the aperture on the rear of the base unit topbox and
along the rear of the pc core.
If two sidecars are being fitted to the ATM, the USB cables for both sidecars must be
routed to the hub before connecting them.

13. Connect the USB cables into the hub, starting from the first free port on the left‐hand
side of the hub (start with the lower hub if there are two) and strictly in the order:
O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, H using the yellow, lettered labels on the cables.
14. Pull any excess cabling through from the sidecar into the harness channel then secure
with cable ties provided in the accessories bag. There should be no slack cables in the
sidecar, check that the cables do not snag or restrict when racking modules in or out.
15. Refit the front panel on the sidecar: reconnect the MEI or scanner harnessing then
slide the front panel upwards to engage it and secure it at the base with the two
screws retained earlier.
16. If the A4 scanner is required then install this next. (See “Installing the A4 Scanner”
instructions). This is to save time removing the top panel again later.
17. Slide the mid box top panel back into position on the base unit, making sure not to
snag harnessing.

18. Refit the base unit rear panel and secure it with two screws.
Sidecar Door Reconfiguration
Certain installations may require that the sidecar door and the auto‐supervisor switch
need to be reconfigured from the factory default. To reconfigure the door and the auto‐
supervisor switch to the right hand side, proceed as follows:
1. Remove and retain the six screws securing the door hinge to the rear of the cabinet.
2. Rotate the door through 180° and secure it to the rear of the sidecar on the right‐
hand side using the screws removed previously.
3. Disconnect the auto‐supervisor spade terminals.
4. Remove and retain the three screws securing the auto‐supervisor bracket to the top
of the cabinet.

5. Secure the auto‐supervisor bracket to the top of the sidecar on the right hand side
using the screws removed previously.
6. Re‐route the cable through the channel on the right hand side and reconnect to the
switch. Cable tie to secure.

Installing the A4 Scanner
INSTALLING THE A4 SCANNER
1. Remove the Scanner housing from the shipping carton and remove the internal
packaging. Separate the supplied USB and power cables.
Note: The USB cable should not be connected to the ATM. Connect to a separate
computer.
2. Feed the AC input cable up through the bottom of the sidecar. Connect the AC cable
to the power pack. Secure the power pack to the base of the sidecar. Route the DC
output cable up the sidecar and through the top leaving approximately 300mm (12in)
for a service loop out of the top of the sidecar. Secure the cable to the bridge forms in
the sidecar using cable ties (7 places). Tie back any excess cable length to the bridge
forms.
Note: For clarity, illustration shown in section and without modules.

3. Remove and retain the two countersink head screws securing the document scanner
base cover bracket.
4. Remove the bracket.

5. Remove and retain the six screws securing the shroud to the housing base. Remove
and retain the shroud.
6. Remove the Document Scanner from the shipping carton and remove the internal
packaging.
7. Secure the scanner to the housing using three M3 screws underneath the housing.
8. Connect the DC and USB cables through the housing and into the rear of the scanner.

9. Refit the shroud removed earlier and secure using the six screws taking care not to
trap the DC and USB cables.
10. Slide the positioning bracket rearwards and lift to remove from the keyhole slots.

11. Position the scanner and housing onto the top of the sidecar, aligning with the holes
in the top. Take care to ensure the service loops of the two cables does not get
trapped.
12. Through the access holes, place four M4 screws through the housing and the sidecar.

13. Secure the housing to the sidecar using six M4 nuts.
14. Refit the positioning bracket into the keyhole slots.

15. Refit the document scanner base cover bracket around the scanner ensuring that the
tabs at the rear engage with the slots in the rear of the housing.
16. Secure the bracket to the housing with the two countersink head screws removed
previously.
17. This ATM is not supplied with the necessary drivers. Check the device handbook on
instructions to install the driver.

Connecting the ATM Cables
CONNECTING THE ATM CABLES
Note: For a sidecar on the right‐hand side of the ATM (viewed from the front) cables
should be fed into the security enclosure prior to installation of the sidecar.
The cables used to make connections to the ATM must conform to the cable
specifications and details of preparation provided in the site preparation manual.
Cables to be connected to the ATM fall into two categories:
 Power cable ‐ does not require additional grounding
 All other cables require additional grounding by means of a ‘P’ clamp. Refer to the
Site Preparation manual for the list of cables which require grounding.
The power cable and the ‘P’ clamp for grounding can be found in the accessories bag.
CAUTION
Cables must be grounded to make sure that the ATM meets EMC
requirements.
1. Check that the mains ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position (pressed in at the 0 side).
2. Pull out the module on the left‐hand side of the security enclosure, until its slides are
fully extended.
Note: Before racking out, remove the internal packaging from around the modules.
Refer to the “Removing Internal Packaging” section.
3. Loosen the two M6 screws securing the cable entry bracket to the security enclosure.
Slide the bracket sideways to access the cable entry hole.

WARNING
Make sure that the power supply cable is not connected to the AC
outlet while you are connecting it to the ATM.
4. If not done previously, insert the end of the power cable through the cable entry hole
in the side of the security enclosure.
Note: The power cable can be found in the accessories carton.
5. Connect the power cable to the socket on the AC Inlet Filter.
6. Insert the ends of the remaining cables through the hole in the side of the security
enclosure.
7. Fit an appropriate ‘P’ clamp (dependent on the diameter of the cable), around the
stripped section of each cable which requires grounding, and attach them to one of
the raised forms on the I/O panel using an M4 x 10 thread forming screw.
Note 1: The screws and ‘P’ clamps can be found in the accessories box.
Note 2: If the cable has not been stripped, refer to the instructions in the site
preparation manual.

8. Connect the ethernet cable and any other appropriate cables to the matching
connectors on the I/O panel.
9. Ensure that there are no loose cables and that all modules are free to rack in and out,
by either cutting the cable to the required length, or securing inside the ATM.
10. Secure the cables to the existing harnessing using the cable ties provided in the
accessories box.
11. Close the cable entry hole and tighten the two M6 screws to secure the cable entry
bracket to the security enclosure.
Note: Make sure there is enough clearance to ensure the cables are not damaged.
CAUTION
All interior packaging MUST be removed before applying mains power to the ATM.
12. Switch on the power at the AC outlet and then at the ATM.

This section describes how to remove the internal packaging from all possible modules in
the ATM.
Note: The amounts and types of packing may be subject to change without notice.

Remove the packaging from the following areas:
1. Remove the tapes from the dispenser latch and foam block between the dispenser
and the dispenser latch.
2. Remove the foam block from the front of the dispenser.
3. Remove the foam block(s) from between the side of the dispenser and the security
enclosure wall.
Note: Take care not to damage the pick harness and board when removing the foam
block(s).
4. If two modules are fitted, remove the foam block(s) from between the modules.

5. Remove the foam block(s) from beneath the dispenser.

6. Rack out the dispenser and remove VCI paper sheet on top of the transport and
presenter.

7. Remove the two pieces of tape attached to the carriage. Cut the cable tie from the
presenter side frame holes and under tie bar.
Note: Take care not to damage the carriage when removing the tapes.
Rear Access Front Access
8. The carriage assembly may have to be moved for access to the BAM. Use the green
thumb slot to move the carriage on the tracks. Once the filament tape and foam have
been removed, return the carriage to the previous shipping position.

9. Remove the tape and foam block from the Bill Alignment Module (BAM).

10. Pull each cassette out of the dispenser, then remove the accessories package from
inside each cassette.

Cash Acceptor and Recycler
1. If fitted, remove the two shipping brackets.
2. Remove the packaging from the following areas:
 Plastic latch de‐activator from the module latch
 Foam packaging from the front of the module.
 Foam block from between the cash acceptor and recycler and the enclosure wall,
and from between the cash acceptor / recycler and the dispenser if one is fitted.
 Tape and foam from the switch.

3. Pull the cash acceptor and recycler out of the ATM, and remove the tape and foam
from the locations shown below.
4. Remove the tape from the transport latch, allowing the transport to lift up. Using
your fingers, gently push the foam sheet from under the transport until it can be
removed from the other end.

5. Push the upper module back into the ATM, then remove the tape from the lower
module as shown below.
6. Lift the cassette transport lid to reveal the cassettes. Pull each cassette out of the

1. Remove the screw securing each module tray to the shipping bracket.

2. Remove the tape and foam block from the module tray latch(es).
3. Remove the accessories bag from the sidecar tray(s).
Statement Printer (Fanfold Paper Type)
1. Remove the tape covering the thumb screws on the paper knife.
2. Remove the tape from around the hopper latch.

Receipt Printer
Remove the tape from the print head and paper roll. If dual roll, remove the tape from
both paper rolls.
