EVELYN DEL REY IS MOVING AWAY
Discuss how you can tell that Evelyn and Daniela are friends.
Then have students write what they consider makes a friend by
finishing the sentences “I like to ____________________ with my
friends” and “I’m a good friend because I ____________________.”

Look for ways the story shows Evelyn and Daniela planning
to continue their friendship (through phone calls, visiting, and
letters). Ask for other ideas, then have each student pick one
way to communicate with someone who lives far away.

The girls are happy playing together, but they are both sad
about not living near each other anymore. Discuss the many
feelings that come with change.

Daniela describes her room and Evelyn’s room and imagines

what Evelyn’s new home will be like. Have students write
descriptions of their own rooms or what they’d like in a new
