An architectural floor layout plan of a proposed 2 storey mall building is shown in attached file. The
proposed building is to be located at Lot 6065-6067 mukim Dengkil, Selangor beside the chemical
factories and near to the sea as well. The building would be constructed using reinforced concrete frame
structure. The structure has to be designed using limit state approach complying the requirements of
design code (EC2) and local authority (Malaysian Standard, MS). The required design parameters have
to be considered with proper justification. The particular data of the project for each student is different
as shown in the given table, every student must have to use their own data. Design the structure
considering the following notes.
(1) The construction materials would be used in the design of the structure should be selected based
on the requirements of safety and durability of structure should be considered and need to be
reported in the project.
(2) The conceptual model of structure needs to be finalized and should comply the requirements of
architect, considering stability of structure, easy construction, low cost, faster construction of
elements.
(3) Layout plans of structural elements should be finalized considering proper load path of the
structure.
(4) Should discuss the concept of optimal design of all structural elements and need to design the
elements accordingly.
(1) Once the structural model and layout plan have been finalized, the structure need to be analysed
using engineering tools (software).
(2) All elements of the structure need to be designed through manual design calculation by using
internal forces which are obtained from structural analysis software. Both ultimate limit
state and serviceability limit state must be taken care off in the design. Every student has to
design selected elements (3 elements) of slab, flat slab, beam, column and foundation with
proper structural details. The selection must be done through group discussion with proper
justification to avoid similarity/copying of design amongst the members.
