It’s rather rewarding to be among all the volunteers that help out with the Albertson’s Turkey Bucks program.

Albertson’s Grocery ‘Turkey Bucks’ feed families

When you check out at
Albertson’s Grocery store, have
you ever noticed the signs that read
“TURKEY BUCKS”?
Do you wonder what happens
to your donation after you contribute
to the Turkey Bucks? According to
the sign it is to help provide a holiday
dinner to a local family in need. (all
donations stay in our community!)
I can speak for the past 6-7
years that I have been fortunate to
help Albertson’s with the “Turkey
Bucks” meals.
The monies donated is used for
“complete” dinners for persons
in our community that could use
a little extra help through the
holidays. The factor determining
the number of meals provided is
the amount of monies collected to
purchase the dinners. Each dinner is
approximately $50.
We are never sure how many
dinners we can donate until the
meals are received in the store.
While I have been involved with
the project, the least amount of the
meals have been 50 with the most of
approximately 125.
You might wonder how a person
can sign up for a dinner. We receive
names (with prior authorization
from the family) from community
programs, businesses, and churches.
A person may also request a voucher
from Albertson’s. Keep in mind not
everyone requesting a meal may get
one. This depends on the number
of meals provided & number of
persons requesting a meal.
I would personally like to thank
Albertson’s Grocery Store along
with all the community persons
who have contributed monies to
help those that are needing a little
bit of help this time of year.

Four college students get drunk together the night

Chuck Storkson
Charles George
“Chuck” Storkson, 83, of
Gettysburg, South Dakota
passed away Friday,
November 13, 2020 at his
home of natural causes.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m, Monday,
November 23, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Gettysburg.
Chuck was born June 8, 1937 in Glasgow, MT
to Clarence and Rachael (Beck) Storkson. He came
to Gettysburg from Glasgow to visit his sister and
her husband, who were stationed at the air base near
Gettysburg. Chuck decided to stay
He met his wife of 61 years, Elaine “Dugger”
Gross. Theirs was the first wedding performed in the
new Sacred Heart Church on July 25, 1959. They were
blessed with three daughters.
After a variety of jobs, he had the opportunity to
be on a welding crew for Hoosier Engineers, putting
the power line throughout South Dakota and ending
at Watertown in November of 1974. He accepted a
position at the Potter County Highway Department
as a heavy equipment operator until his injury on
November 16, 1989. At this time, Chuck became
interested in many hobbies including wood working
and creating beautiful stained-glass creations. Chuck
was a Gettysburg fire fighter for 15 years during his
earlier employment, but he resigned when he went on
the road with Hoosiers’.
He was a very head strong man that didn’t leave
a person wondering what he stood for. His joy was his
family. He so loved teaching his grandkids skills and
helping them with projects.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Elaine “Dugger”;
daughters: Charlene “Dort” Smith, Harrisburg, Starla
“Tillie” Brandon, Conroe, TX, Angelene “Fred” (Alan)
Vetter, Gettysburg; five grandchildren and 10 great
grandchildren. Sisters: Caroline Podriez, Havre, MT,
Edna Flemming, Nashua, MT; and one brother, Levon
“Smiley” Johnson, Glasgow, MT.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister,
Ethel Sheriff; and a brother, Jim Storkson.
Chuck was a very practical man, and this is how
he felt about flowers: “They are nice, but ya can’t eat
‘em”. Memorials may be directed to Keep Hope Local,
127 Hilltop Dr., Gettysburg, SD 57442.

Galt and Blasdel Take Top Legislative Posts in Helena

Lawmakers selected party
leaders for the upcoming legislative
session in Helena on Wednesday.
Earlier Wednesday, I wrote
about how the Montana Democrats
locked themselves inside “the
Helena bubble” and then their
bubble burst as Republicans swept
the state in the massive red wave of
the 2020 elections.
What did Democrats in the
Montana State Legislature do later
that same day? They selected two
lawmakers from Helena to serve
as their leaders in both chambers.
(Well, to be fair...one of them is
from EAST Helena...)
Meanwhile, Martinsdale
Republican Wylie Galt will serve
as Speaker of the House, and
former Speaker of the House Mark

as the President of the Senate,

Living in a nursing facility

In 2018 I was living at Nemont Manor and enjoying
it. But that all changed when I got an infection from
doing dialysis at home. After that I could no longer do
treatment at home. I needed to be closer to a dialysis
center. The nearest one to Glasgow is in Poplar and that
is well over an hour’s drive. My problem was no one to
drive me — and the expense.
I did check into the bus service, however, that was
going to cost me about $100 a trip. Now if I was a Native
American it would cost me a lot less. So I had to move
to Billings and reside in a nursing facility.
My family was told that was the best place for me
to be. I came to the facility, which is also a rehabilitation
facility. I went through the rehab and got my strength
back, but there was a social worker and a so-called
Medicaid expert here that lied to me and my family that
I should be here for nurse’s care.
I am independent so I do not need a lot of nurse’s
care. When living on my own I filled my med set weekly,
and gave myself my insulin shots. So I do not need
nurse’s care (although it is nice to be pampered a little!).
And there are some nice looking nurses and CNA’s.
Living in a nursing facility, especially at my age, is
not a lot of fun. You lose your freedom. It is like being in
jail at times. You have to share a room and there are four
guys sharing a bathroom. You can’t take a shower by
yourself. But there again the one giving you a shower is
really nice looking so you really don’t mind. The CNA’s
let me do my shower.
Now with this COVID-19 living here is worse
yet. I have no family in Billings so it is harder yet. The
facility is locked down so you don’t get to go out of
your room, except for showers. You eat in your room
and you sit there doing whatever you can. Luckily I
have my computer and stories to do. I can do research
to keep myself busy. I have a TV and books to read.
Unfortunately, there are some residents that just sit and
do nothing.
Being locked down with this so-called virus is
tough on the residents, nurses and CNA’s. The residents
complain to the nurses and CNA’s. Residents had
activities taken away. They could no longer exercise. All
we can do is sit in our rooms and do nothing.
The governor needs to open the nursing facilities
up and give us some freedom. We’re not catching this
virus from our families. It’s the employees of these
facilities that bring the virus in and giving it to the

The family of Doris Brandt would like to thank our
family and friends for the cards, words of comfort,
food and memorials. We would like to thank
FMDH and Bell Mortuary for their care of Mom
and help with arrangements during this time. A
special thank you to Valley View Home for the love
and care shown to Mom while she made it her home.
residents. I thought we were safe in here, but we are not.
The employees aren’t careful enough when they are out
in public.
Nursing facilities could be okay to live at when a
person is older, but at my age, I don’t think so. When
I get older, then I wouldn’t mind living in a nursing
facility.
I had almost everything taken away from me. You
don’t have a lot of room to have much of your belongings
with you. I had a tractor collection, pictures, and
numerous other collectable items that I had to sell. A
person loses a lot when they are put in a nursing facility.
I do not like it here. I’d rather be back in Glasgow so I
can go to sporting events.
There is no reason why Glasgow could not put a
dialysis center in. The hospital is always adding things,
so why not a dialysis center?
Prior to moving back to Glasgow I lived in Bozeman
in a nice mobile home. I had a job where I worked for
20 years. And I enjoyed that job until new owners took
over and decided they didn’t need two sports writers.
But losing that job probably saved my life. At the
time I did not know that I was dying. It the two doctors
in Glasgow to nurse me back to being healthy, again.
Even losing my home in Bozeman I had to down
size and, here again, get rid of a lot of my belongings.
It’s an experience that a person does not want to go
through.
I did enjoy moving back to Glasgow so I could see
family and friends again, which are important to me. I
just wish I could still be there. I miss family and friends,
which are important to me at this time.
So, this virus has taken a lot away from me and
other residents and people that live in a nursing facility.
We need family. The governor was and is wrong in
locking these places up. Let our families come see us.
I like attending sporting events and like to write
sport and 4-H stories. Because of this virus, I could not
come back for the Northeast Montana Fair. I’d like to be
able to do these things again.
