1) Briefly share a little about your background experiences that have led you to choose

a career in education?

During my undergraduate studies, I was accepted into an internship program called AISEC
where I was given a teaching position in Greece and in Guatemala. This introduced me to the
realm of education, and I instantly fell in love with teaching and how I can help students to grow
academically and personally. As soon as I had completed my undergraduate studies, I applied to
work with the Waterloo Catholic district School Board as an Educational Assistant, and was
hired. This provided me with three years of hands-on experience of working in an Ontario
school, grasping how I can support all students.

2) What have you learned in your teacher training program that will make you an
excellent classroom teacher and colleagues?

I believe that my teacher training program has provided me with a strong background in
designing lesson plans, creating a safe environment for my students, ensuring that all guide-lines
and curriculum standards are met, and finally, grasping that each and every student learns
differently, so I need to always make sure that my students feel heard, welcomes, and supported
to the fullest extent.

3) Provide us with an example of a lesson you taught. How did you integrate it with
other curriculum areas, address the CCLS, technology, student engagement and
motivation?

A lesson that I taught which was integrated with other curriculum areas, was my Bitmoji
classroom on the topic of racism. While my lesson served as a Social Studies topic, it also
intertwined with literacy as my students were asked to use their reading and writing skills to
answer questions. Students were exposed to a read-aloud book, which was presented to them
through YouTube. After the story, students were asked specific questions in order to assess what
points they had taken from the story.

In this lesson, which was completely virtual, I opted to incorporate a movement break and a
finale dance for students to partake in. I chose to include this as students would be sitting for
significant periods of time in order to complete the tasks and listen to the stories. This influenced
my students to be more engaged in the matter, and overall, created a safe and positive
environment.

4) What were the results of the lesson?

The results of this lesson were that my students were exposed to real-world problems and how
they can create a more inclusive society. Additionally, students were able to sharpen their
literacy skills as they were expected to write.
5) How will your knowledge of the current trends in education inform you as an
educator in our district/board/school?

The present trends in education are ones that I have been trained to keep up with. I am a strong
believer in professional development and will jump on any opportunity that is presented to me
for me to become a more informed and trained teacher.

6) Why should we hire you instead of the other applicants we have interviewed?

I believe that you should hire me because I have worked very hard to become a teacher. During
my studies, there were periods of time that I had worked three part-time positions while studying
full-time in order to make it to this point. I have taken many professional development courses,
such as being trained in BMS (Behaviour Management Systems) in order to ensure a respectful
learning environment for all. I have taught in other locations of the world, in order to make a
difference in a person’s life. My life plans have revolved so deeply around teaching, and
therefore, I believe you should hire me because this is what I was made for; to become a
dedicated, present, and positive teacher.
