Direct Instruction Lesson Plan Template

Teachers: Subject:
Noah Hinojosa World History
AZ State Standards:
● Analyze how technological innovation and trade has affected economic development and transformed societies.

Learning Objective:
● Students will analyse the role of technological innovation in creating and strengthening economic development.

Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):

◻ How will you assess if your student achieved mastery of the lesson objective?
◻ Determine the type of demonstration/activity the student will use to demonstrate mastery of the objective.
◻ What is the condition and degree, the setting or situation in which the student will be able to express the depth and extent of
learning?
◻ What is an exemplar student response with the level of detail you expect to see?

Formative: Throughout the lesson and unit, students will engage in discussions in order to answer prompted
questions and questions raised by other students, demonstrating their understanding of the role of different
technological developments.
Summative: A quiz where students can demonstrate their understanding of technological innovations and their
economic impact, by categorizing different technologies and their impact on the economy. Additionally, students will
be able to demonstrate understanding by comparing and contrasting two similar technologies and their economic
benefits.

Key Academic Vocabulary: (Consider Bloom’s Materials Needed:

Verbs) For Presentation:
Analyze= examine, scrutinize, break down, dissect, Computer, Projector, Sound System
investigate, determine elements or characteristics of…
Differentiate= discern, separate, understand,
characterize

Opening Activity
◻ How will you activate student interest?
◻ How will you connect and uncover prior knowledge?
◻ How will you present the lesson objective in an engaging and student-friendly way?

Opening Activity - Students will begin the lesson by working in small groups to brainstorm what
they think are some of the most important technological innovations in history, either recently or
from long ago. Students will then share these with the class in order to start spreading their
ideas around and to get everyone thinking about technology and its impact on daily life. using
their ideas as a starting point, I will transition to the next part of the lesson, introducing
historically significant technological innovations.

◻ How will you explain and model behavioral
expectations?
◻ Is there enough detail in this section so that another
person could teach it?

Teacher will: Students will:

● Introduce the concept of technological ● take notes over key concepts
innovation and the economic impacts of these ● ask questions that they have over the lesson and
innovations. answer guided questions throughout the lesson.
● Explain the concept of how technological
innovations are achieved (reason for their
development, other/previous solutions, effect of
their introduction, etc.)
Presentation will use a mixture of visuals, ranging from
photographs, diagrams, and video.

Guided Practice “We do”

person could facilitate this practice?

Teacher will: Students will:

● Guide students through the development ● work in groups or individually to complete the
process of several key historical technological practice tasks

etc.). and provide feedback to others responses.

Students will share what they think was the most impactful technological innovation in their own lives is
and how previous innovations led to it. Students will also think about how that technological innovation’s
pros and cons toward their productivity translates to how businesses have to think about the pros and
cons of developing or adopting new technologies.
