Trump is Destroying the Republican Party

Republicans are letting Trump destroy their party. He launches his

campaign insulting 50 million Latinos, by calling Mexicans rapists and
murderers and they don’t rebuke him. He humiliates all the candidates
seeking the Republican nomination for president with nicknames and
they gravitate toward him. He becomes such a repulsive candidate that
they make him their candidate for president.
As president, he espouses racism and they allow it. He maligns decent
people and they look the other way. He abuses presidential power and
they condone it. He makes hypocrites out of them and they easily keep
a straight face. He mentions Senators by name and they feel
emboldened. He instills fear of retaliation in members of Congress and
they obediently fall in line. He insults and breaks ties with our allies and
they just sell or buy stock to enrich themselves. He separates migrant
families, mothers from infants, and they say nothing. He puts migrant
children in cages, parents in pens, and they applaud him. He lies to the
American people they remain totally silent.
We’ve elected drunks, womanizers, crooks, slave owners, racists, and
even traitors as president, but none could hold a candle to Trump. One
Republican president even resigned at the urging of Republican
senators to avoid his impeachment, conviction, and forced removal from
office. But those were honorable Republicans like Goldwater, Dole,
Baker, Javits, Tower, Brooke, Percy, Hatfield, Saxbe, Taft, and many
others who put country first and party second. They knew that his forced
removal from office would harm democracy at home and America’s
standing around the world. These were Republican senators who cared
enough about their party to not let a president who had just won re-
election in the biggest landslide in American political history by carrying
49 out of 50 states drag their party through the mud.
This gutless crowd of spineless Republican enablers we have today in
the U.S. House and Senate, governorships, and legislatures are so
pathetic that they’re willing to leave the party with a constituency of
racist bigots, white supremacists, armed militias, anarchists, hate
mongers, conspiracy theorists, and organized separatists groups like
Qanon, the Boogaloo Boiz, the Wolverine Watchmen, misguided
evangelicals, and false prophets.
There are millions of decent Republicans who are not part of these
ignorant weirdos, but if they don’t step up and help move this country
forward they will only reap the destruction caused by these radical right-
wingers. It’s going to be up to decent Republicans to save their party,
and I hope they do because in a true democracy, one party loses and
one party wins. That’s the way it has been since 1789. That’s 231 years.
Why are today’s Republicans enabling Trump to destroy all this rich
history and their party in the process?
