1 General Information
After installing Genetec software for the first time or after moving a
machine to a different PC, clients will need to activate their licenses.
This guide will explain how to activate your license through the Genetec
Technical Assistance Portal (GTAP) webs ite.

2 Procedure for Activating Your License
The following three sub-sections describe the steps necessar y to activate
a license through the GTAP: creating a Validation Key, creating a
License Key and, finally, importing a License Key into Server Admin.

2.1 Creating the Validation Key


1. In the License tab of Server Admin’s Directory branch, click on the “Export Validation Key
to a File” button (see screenshot below).

2. Save the Validation Key (.vk file) somewhere you will be able to use it with an Internet
connection (local drive, flash drive, etc).

2.2 Logging into the GTAP/License Key Creation

3. Using your web browser of choice, visit http://gtap.genetec.com

4. Log in using one of the following combinations:


-A System ID and password (located on the sales documentation you received when you
purchased your license)
-Your personal GTAP username and password. If you do not have a GTAP username, you
may request one by clicking on the “New to GTAP” link (on http://gtap.genetec.com)

5. Once logged in, select the System Browser section under System Management. This will
bring up a list of every System ID you currently have access to.

6. Select the appropriate System ID from the left-hand side column and you will see its System
Information and License Information windows. Below them are your individual machine
licenses. In the example below, we see an inactive machine, represented by a red circle.

7. By clicking on a machine’s name bar, we can see its status and contents. In the example
below, it clearly states that the machine is “Not Activated”. Click on “Activate Your License
Now” in order to begin the activation process.

8. You will now be prompted to supply the Validation Key you saved earlier. Click on
“Browse”, find the .vk file and submit it.

9. Your license will activate and you will be prompted to download your license. Click
“Download License” and save the .lic file in an area where the Server Admin will be able to
access it.

2.3 Importing the License Key into Server Admin

10. In Server Admin, make your way to the Directory branch and click on the “Import License
Key from a File” button (see screenshot below).

11. Find the .lic file you just saved and choose it. This will apply the updated license.

12. You should now see your license information populating the Server Admin.

13. Please ensure to click on the Apply button to lock the license in place.

14. If asked to restart your services, please choose Yes

15. Your system is now licensed. If you do not see your license information displayed,
please contact the Genetec Technical Assistance Center.

3 Re-applying Your License
Clients will sometimes have their licenses modified, either by purchasing
new parts/options, having their expiration date changed, etc. In order to
reflect these changes, the license must be reapplied to the appropriate
machine. Below is a simple procedure on how to do so.

3.1 Log into GTAP

16. Follow steps 3 to 6 detailed in sub-section 2.2 to log into the GTAP and find the
System ID in question.
17. Find the machine that needs to have its license reapplied and click its name. This
will expand the current machine’s information window, displaying its current status.

“Activated”.

18. All you must do to re-download the license is click on Download License Key and
save the license key (.lic) somewhere the Server Admin will be able to access.

3.2 Server Admin Steps

19. In Server Admin, make your way to the Directory branch and click on the “Import
License Key from a File” button (see screenshot below).

20. Find the .lic file you just saved and choose it. This will import the updated license.

21. You should now see your updated license information populating the Server Admin.

22. Please ensure to click on the Apply button to lock the license in place.

23. If asked to restart your services, please choose Yes.

24. Your system is now licensed. If you do not see your license information displayed,
please contact the Genetec Technical Assistance Center.
