UNIT GOAL
What will my students know and be able to do after this unit that they could not
do before?
Why does this matter to my students?

Students will be able to identify foods that are eaten in Spanish-

speaking countries and the differences between eating habits in
the US and Spanish-speaking countries. Students will review
telling time in Spanish in order to study when meals are eaten
in Spanish speaking countries. Students will use their
conjugation knowledge and apply it to conjugating –ER and –IR
verbs in the context of food. Students will review the verb
“gustar” and learn how to use it in plural contexts. While the
grammatical and linguistic concepts form the majority of the
unit, students will be invested because of the focus on learning
about new foods and traditions and practicing using the
grammar concepts in a restaurant setting. Students will then
learn specifically how to order foods served at McDonalds in
order to practice their Spanish when they order across the
street where there are many Hispanic workers. I will speak with
the manager and let him/her know that my students are
attempting to improve their Spanish so it would be wonderful if
workers who encounter students trying to order in Spanish
helped them out.
