Definition of Terms

The following terms are defined conceptually and operationally:

Juxtaposition is the act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side often to compare or

contrast or to create an interesting effect. In this study, it may indicate as the word use for the comparison

between Taking STEM and ABM track in the Level of Academic Performance among Third Year Nursing

Students of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao.

Academic pertains to the course of study taken at school or college. In this study, it relates to students’

level of knowledge and education.

Performance is the act of doing a job, an activity. This study relates in education, it is the way the students

reflect their studying performance.

Academic Performance refers on how a student responds to a given task whether it is written or oral and

how the student shows his potential academically. In this study, academic performance will be described

using the respondents’ level of understanding, length of task accomplishment and general weighted

average in first year BS Nursing.

General Weighted Average (GWA) is the average of grades in all subjects taken. In this study, it serves as

the indicator of a student's academic performance in their first year in BS Nursing.

Internet is an electronic communication network that connects computer networks and

organizational computer facilities around the world. In this study, use of learning tools and Wi-Fi

connection for students.

Usage is the act of using something or the way something is used. According to the study,

internet and Wi-Fi connection are used as a learning tool for students.

Internet Usage is the act of using the internet. In this study, it may indicate as the use of internet

in determining how frequently it is used.

Academic pertains to the course of study taken at school or college. In this study, it relates to

students’ level of knowledge and education.

Performance is the act of doing a job, an activity. This study relates in education, it is the way

Internet Usage and Academic Performance is all about the utilization of internet and its

effects on the academic performance of students. In this study, the researchers intended to find

the significant relationship of the two variables.

Games are forms of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and

decided by skill, strength, or luck. In this study, it will be a kind of usage on the internet of the

respondents.

Entertainment refers to the action of providing or being provided with amusement or

enjoyment. In this study, it pertains to the use of internet as entertainment to respondents.

Socializing is the act that involves activities in which people spend time talking or doing

enjoyable things with each other. In this study, internet is used by the respondents to socialize.
