CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the method and procedures that was employed in the study. It

includes the research design, research locale, population and sampling and research instrument.

Research Design

The present study will make use of survey, evaluative, comparative and correlational

method of research. With this design, quantitative research method which involve systematic and

objective collection and analysis of data will adopt to elicit responses from the participants in

order to determine the relationship of the variables of the study. Specifically, (1) the

demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, marital status, income, religion and

educational attainment will make use of the survey. The surveyed data will be organized and

interpreted. According to William (2006), the survey research can be anything from paper and

pencil feedback to an intensive one-on-one in-depth interview. It is designed to collect

informations about a certain topic and then analyze to draw conclusions. (2) the level of

efficiency and (3) the extent of implementation of basic health services of selected health centers

in terms of maternal check-up, immunization services and family planning services will make

use of evaluative design in order to assess or judge and to produce unbias information from the

respondents. (4) the significant difference in the level of efficiency and (5) the extent of

implementation when they are grouped according to their demographic profile will make use of

comparative method. It will help to determine and quantify relationships such as similarities and

differences between two or more variables. (6) the relationship between the level of efficiency
and extent of implementation of basic health services of selected health centers will make use of

correlational method. The main goal of this type of research is to figure out which variables are

connected. It may be positive, negative or no correlation. This is mainly done when a researcher

wants to gain a better understanding about the study.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted in the Municipality of Lucena City. It is located in the

Southern part of the Quezon province where it is the first class that is highly urbanized. Lucena

City is divided into thirty-three (33) barangays and the estimated current population of Lucena

City is 264,879. The researchers specifically choose Barangay Ibabang Dupay Health Center in

Lucena City as the target area of the study because the researchers believe that it will give a

number of contributions due to the large number of its population and where most of this

services are provided.

Population and Sampling

The participants of the research study are the residents of Brgy. Ibabang Dupay who

visits the health center for maternal check-up, immunization service and family planning

services. Criteria to become a participant are: (1) one year residence at Brgy. Ibabang Dupay; (2)

residents who regularly visits the health center; (3) must be 18 years old and above. The

researchers will have an overall 80-100 respondents and will use a non-probability sampling

where the samples most available are chosen.

Research Instrument

The major data-gathering instrument to be use for the study would be a survey

questionnaire. The items in the questionnaire was formulated by the researchers themselves

based on the related literatures and studies gathered from reading various sources such as books,

undergraduate thesis, internet articles, and other resource materials. The instrument is divided

into four main sections: Part I of the survey questionnaire seeks information about demographic

profile the respondents such as the age, sex, marital status, income, religion and educational

attainment. The Part II of the survey questionnaire seeks information about the efficiency and

implementation of the maternal check up on basic health service. And the Part III of the survey

questionnaire is the efficiency of the immunizations and the implementations of basic health

service. While Part IV of the survey questionnaire consist of the efficiency and its

implementation of basic health service in family planning. There are 2 types of survey

questionnaire that would be made, one is for the patients and the other one is for the personnel of

barangay health center. In this survey questionnaire, the respondents will rate their answers using

the Likert or 5 (five) point scale wherein five choices will be provided for every question or

statement. The choices represent the degree of agreement regarding the level of efficiency and

extent of implementation of basic health services of selected health centers. The Likert scale was

the selected questionnaire type as this enables the respondents to answer the survey easily.
