Learning activity 1

Evidence: The time is now

This evidence is divided into two parts: A composition and an audio file. Read the
instructions below and make sure you complete both tasks.

A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar and
vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a


composition.)

Example:

One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I thought it
was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at school and that
was frustrating.
The main reason I didn't study English before was because I had no
reason to learn English

She wasn't interested and she didn't have the need. Other reasons why
I did not study English were;

I didn't study English before because I wasn't too good at learning


English

It was not a mandatory requirement in the country to access university.

Another reason was that when I was in high school, everything had
instructions in Spanish, so there was no need to learn English.

There were no financial resources, so I studied what high school


offered.

2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name and
explain at least 5 things.)

Example:

If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
was to speak English and my level back then was very low.
If I had learned English earlier, it would have been a great help in
achieving my personal goals in college.

If I had learned English earlier, I would have gone to another country


where the main language was English.

If I had learned English before, now I would be a manager in the


institution at work.

If I had learned English earlier, I would probably have my English


certification.

If I had learned English earlier, I probably would have helped my son's


homework.

B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

Example:

I’m studying English because I finally decided that if I want to improve my


professional profile becoming bilingual is essential.

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

Example:

Being competent in English is going to increase the opportunities of landing a more


satisfying and better-paid job. We live in an international open market and English
is the most important language.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

Because learning English is a goal to get a better job, and one of the
requirements of the workplace is to have a degree in English.
Today, more and more people are spending time studying English as a
second language. English is a global language. Learning English can help
me meet new people and Traveling is much easier with a good knowledge
of English.

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

Being proficient in English gives you access to multiple cultures, with


English you can study all over the world, English is the language of the
Internet.
