The Shell Report

By Motorsports writer Dean Corrodus.

The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) with support from KFC, Tru Juice, Rum Bar and The Automotive
Performance Centre Ltd. held its first championship points scoring event of the 2011 season when it staged
Dexterity #1 at the Badda Badda Raceway in Richmond, Priory, St. Ann on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Early
morning showers threatened to dampen the spirits of the organizers who had already been forced to postpone the
event from its original January 16 scheduled date, when extensive flood damage made the venue unusable, but by 9
a.m., the sun broke through the clouds and quickly dried up the surface moisture, leaving the track dry and tractable
for the competitors who were in attendance.

In the front wheel drive class, Christopher “Teach” McFarlane came out on top driving the Stewart’s Motors
Mitsubishi Lancer GT, with Kevin “Western” Watson from Bru’ksport racing in second, sharing the Fabric Smart
Suzuki Swift Gti with Derrick Shim who placed 3rd.

The Front Wheel Drive with Limited Slip Differential class, the Four Wheel Drive and the Rear wheel drive class
had only one competitor each, with Kirby Smallhorn, Richard Rerrie and Garth Chin gathering the spoils
respectively.

The hotly contested Rear Wheel Drive with Limited Slip Differential class was the one that provided the most
excitement, with many time champion Maurice Whittingham in his pristine Toyota Starlet romping his way to
victory ahead of Cleve “Cutta Hype” Ottey in a baby blue car of the same vintage. Kingsley Scott placed 3rd.
Whittingham again placed 1st in the quad section, piloting the four wheel motorcycle to the win ahead of event host
Halquin “Pugu” Rodney and McFarlane.

Rerrie posted the fastest time of the day in his “Free Buju”/Leroy’s Auto Glass Subaru Impreza WRX Sti while
McFarlane was the two wheel drive winner.

In the championship run, Whittingham again gained top honors with McFarlane 2nd and Garth Chin in 3rd.

The next event on the motorsports calendar is the Jamaica Karting Associations Meet #1 to be held at the Palisadoes
International Raceway this Sunday, February 13 to be followed by the annual prize-giving and awards ceremony for
the JMMC at the Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay on Saturday, February 19, starting at 7pm. The following day,
Sunday February 20, will see action at the Miatsu Batteries Ironshore tarmac Sprint starting at 10a.m., when fire
breathing exotic speed machines descend on Montego Bay’s popular racing venue.
