Job Description: Principal


Reports to: Superintendent
FLSA: Exempt

Primary Purpose:

Directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and counseling activities and oversees
daily operations.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification
Four-year degree, teaching certificate or school administrator certificate recommended.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Database software, Internet software
Ability to learn customized computer programs such as Applidesk
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with staff, students, and parents.
Administrative skills required.
Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills
Budgetary skills

Experience:
School Experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Develops and evaluates educational program to ensure conformance to state and school
board standards.

2. Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of
teachers’ activities, and issuance of directives.

3. Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems
in school.

4. Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other
schools to coordinate educational services.

5. Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed.

6. Directs preparation of class schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports (PEIMS).

7. Regularly checks building and property to maintain safety and security.

8. Plans and directs building maintenance.

9. Plans ways to market the school to increase enrollment and maintain ADA.

10. Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, Student Handbook, and
Student Code of Conduct

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 5 to 20 employees. A Supervisor carries out supervisory


responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning,
assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining
employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
