INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION

Read the following instructions carefully before answering the questions.

1. This question paper consists of 8 Questions. Answer ALL the

questions.

2. Clearly show ALL calculations, diagrams, graphs, et cetera, which

you have used in determining the answers.

3. An approved scientific calculator (non-programmable and non-

graphical) may be used, unless stated otherwise.

4. If necessary, answers should be rounded off to TWO decimal

places, unless stated otherwise.

5. Diagrams are NOT necessarily drawn to scale.

6. Diagram sheet are attached at the end of this question paper.

Write your name and surname on ALL the sheets and insert it
inside your ANSWER BOOK.

7. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system

used in this question paper.

8. It is in your own interest to write legibly and to present the work

neatly.

QUESTION 1

1.1 Five friends take an IQ test. Their scores are 96, 100, 105, 110
and 114. Say whether the statements below are true or false:

1.1.1 The median and the mean are both 105 (1)

1.1.2 The standard deviation is 7,28 (2)

1.1.3 If the score of 96 was changed to 92, the standard

deviation would decrease. (1)

1.2

Use the box and whisker diagram to say whether the statements
below are true or false. If false give the correct statement or
reason why the statement is incorrect.

1.2.1 The data is skewed to the right (1)

1.2.2 The median is 10 (1)

1.2.3 The minimum value of 2 is an outlier (2)

QUESTION 2

As part of an environmental awareness initiative, learners were

asked to collect newspapers for recycling. The following frequency
table shows the mass of the newspapers (in kilograms) collected
over a period of 6 months by 28 learners.

Newspaper Mass
Frequency Cumulative Frequency
(in kg)
20  x  30 1
30  x  40 3
40  x  50 6
50  x  60 11
60  x  70 4
70  x  80 2
80  x  90 1

2.1 Complete the cumulative frequency table provided on the Diagram

Sheet 1. (2)

Mathematics/P2 March 2017

2.2 Hence, on the grid given on the diagram sheet, draw a cumulative
frequency graph (ogive) using your table in 2.1. (3)

2.3 Determine the modal class of the mass of the newspapers

collected. (1)

2.4 Mark off, clearly, on your graph where you would read off the
approximate median mass (Q2) of the newspapers collected by
this group of learners. (2)

2.5 What percentage of learners collected 60 kilograms or more of

newspaper? (2)

QUESTION 3

A(–4 ; 5), B( –8; 1) and C(4 ; –3) are the coordinates of the
vertices of  ABC. AC and BC intersect the x-axis at H and K
respectively. EC intersects the x-axis at G(6; 0) and EC produced
intersects the y-axis at F. BK̂H   and BĈF   .
