Notification
The question of extending some kind of post retirement benefit to the Accredited
Journalists of the State was under active consideration on the State Government for some
time past. The Associations of Journalists and Press Photographers/Cameraman have also
been demanding pension for the retired Journalists of the State.
Now, after careful consideration of the matter the Governor is pleased to sanction
pension of Rs. 2000/- per month to the Journalists and Photo Journalists accredited by the
State Government provided that:
1) He or She attains 60 years of age and is retired from the job of a
journalist/photojournalist.
2) He or she has served as Journalists/Photo Journalists in the State for not less than
10 years.
3) He or she holds a valid Accreditation Card issued by the Government of West
Bengal on the date of his or her retirement.
4) He or she submits application in prescribed form for the pension to the Director of
Information, I & CA Department, Government of West Bengal (Apart from
application he or she should also submit the necessary declarations in specified
forms).
The Pension mentioned herein above shall come into force from the 1st day of April,
2009.
For the purpose of proof of age, any of the following documents will be valid:
a) A Declaration/Certificate from the organisation last served.
b) Duly attested copy of the Admit Card of School leaving examination where the date of
birth is mentioned.
c) Duly attested copy of valid passport.
In case of (b) and (c) above the original document may have to be produced for
verification if asked for.
The eligible pensioner will continue to receive pension during his or her lifetime unless he
or she becomes subsequently ineligible on the ground of non-fulfilment of any of the
conditions mentioned above.
For the purpose of the above scheme, the Director of Information, I & CA Department shall
be the sanctioning authority.
Accredited Press Reporters/Photo Journalists, who have retired on or after 1st April, 2009
and have attained 60 years of age are eligible for this pension.
