Philosophy Statement

Ever since I was young, I always knew I wanted to do something that involved helping
others. It took some time for me to figure out what I wanted to do, but I have it figured it out
now. I would like to assist with healthcare challenges not only across the nation, but globally as
well. My goal is to travel to developing countries or areas across the nation and improve their
access to healthcare, their well-being, and education levels. I decided this was what I wanted to
do this when I traveled to Ecuador in high school. During this trip I had the opportunity to work
in an elementary school and help in an orphanage. I also stayed with a family and experienced
how they lived for a few days and noticed how much difficult it was for them. There were no
clinics, hospitals or any sort of healthcare provided nearby, access to clean water and food was
challenging, and even for the children to get to school it was a very far distance. I realized how
fortunate we were to have access to healthcare and education and want to improve that in places
similar to there.
Public health has been the perfect major for me and my future career. I have been able to
learn and grow in ways that I would have never expected. I believe that everyone has a right to
health and education and this field will allow me to reach those goals. My minor is health
education and it is important to me that people are being taught about health, such as healthy
eating, physical fitness and your overall well-being. There are a lot of components that go into
public health and I want to break it down and make it simple as possible for everyone to
understand. I would love to work with specifically preventing diseases; many people focus on an
illness once it has occurred, but you could actually prevent it from happening from the start.
After I graduate college with my Bachelor’s of Science in Health with a concentration in
Public Health and a minor in Health Education, I plan on beginning my dream job. I have my
internship over summer, which will allow me to receive real world experience and then my set
graduation is Fall 2021. I would love to be able to work with a company that has the same goals
as me and help me achieve them in the long run. I want to start by traveling to places either
nationally or globally for short amount of times and share my knowledge with the people there
and give them proper healthcare that they need. Further down the road, I think it would be a great
opportunity to become overseer of these trips or to work more in-depth healthcare wise in these
low poverty places. General healthcare is great for prevention of diseases, but I would also love
to be able to help treat and diagnose illnesses and help people recover from that. Overtime,
places in these similar situations will start to decrease in infectious diseases, have a better quality
of life, and live a healthy lifestyle. It won’t happen overnight, but even doing the smallest things
will make a change and people will appreciate so much than you can imagine. I want the world
to change for the better and doing this will allow me be a part of something bigger than I could
imagine.
