What is Empowerment Technology?

Empowering the World with the use of technology. We're so lucky because the
technologies are present everywhere it help us to make our work quickly and
accurate. It is timely updated and always upgraded. In this generation,
technology has many uses and important role to our lives and what we all to do
is to empower it by doing some things that have value or good benefit to us by
the use of gadgets and computers.

Why do we need to study Empowerment Technology?

Empowerment technology is important, especially to the millennials like you. To


prepare, to teach the value and to introduce to you or to us the proper world of
ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and also, of course to teach
us the proper etiquette of using it.

So let’s move on to our 1st discussion which is the INTRODUCTION TO ICT


So ICT stands for what? Okay very good! ICT stands for INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY –it deals with the use of different
communication technologies such as mobile phones, telephone, internet and etc.
To locate save and edit information.
What we are currently doing right now is a very good example of ICT. We use
internet to make a video call via zoom or vsmart webinars, or we send chat
messages or make a call using cellular networks or smartphone. And also ICT
contributed immensely to social and economic improvements, such as higher
employment and productivity, increasing access to a higher quality of life. Having
a unified way to communicate is one of the goal of ICT. And In a very simplified
sense, ICT is used to talk about all of the technologies that facilitate
communications. So take note of this, ICT focuses on communication.
Now let’s talk about the status of ICT in the Philippines
Several international companies dubbed our country, Philippines as the ICT Hub of
Asia.

Why it is dubbed as the HUB of Asia? It’s because of the huge growth of ICT related
jobs. One of which is the call center or BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) companies
Also, According to 2013 edition of Measuring the Information Society by the
International Telecommunication Union, there are 106.8
Cellphones per 100 Filipinos in the year 2012.

Meaning per 100 Filipinos, 7% of them are using cellphones at the same time either one
for personal use or one is for business purposes.

To add these statistics, according to Time Magazine the Philippines is “The Selfiest
Cities around the World” in year 2013. Two cities from the Philippines are in the top 10.
Makati City, -Rank 1 as the “Selfiest” Cities around the world and Rank 9 is Cebu
City.The study was conducted using Instagram.
