 Polio
o There have been 4 reported cases of polio in Baluchistan and 48 cases from all over the
country
o The main reason behind this increase of cases in the region is parents who are turning
away anti-polio workers from their homes
o Despite authorities cutting off supplies of utilities like gas and electricity, it has been to
no avail
o The major hubs of the anti-vax parents have been in Qila Abdullah and Jaffarabad
o The number of reported polio cases increased from 48 to 53 on 8th of August, 2019
o The majority of cases coming out of KP (41/53), with Baluchistan (4/53) and Sindh
(3/53) straggling behind it
o The major reason behind this increase in polio cases has been linked with conspiracies
pertaining to the West wanting to damage Muslim children through the polio vaccine
o This along with other myths are the major obstacles in the way of immunization of
children in Pakistan
 CNG
o CNG and LPG have been banned by authorities due to lack of safety regulations resulting
in horrific deaths
 3rd of June 2019, 3 people were killed due to a cylinder explosion
 May 2019, 3 adults + 2 children were killed in a cylinder explosion
o Despite deaths and price hike, CNG still remains the only viable economical option for
the majority of citizens
 Education
o The budget for universities have been cut from 65bn to 59bn
o The consequences of this action have been
 Universities are now struggling to pay salaries
 The revenue generating schemes of universities have failed to take off
 It has limited the access of research and knowledge to students, according to
experts
 The number of scholarships has decreased which does not bode well for
students with meager backgrounds
 Labor Laws
o Ayub Khan established two labor laws
 Social Security Ordinance, 1965
 It introduced a scheme of social security for the provision of benefits to
certain employees and their dependents in the event of sickness,
maternity, employment injury or death
 Companies Profits (Workers’ Participation) Act, 1968
 It provided for workers’ participation in the company’s profits
 5% of a company’s annual profit would be allocated to the fund and
paid to eligible workers
o Z. A. Bhutto continued this trend by established the Employees Old-Age Benefits Act,
1976
o It was intended for persons employed in industrial
