Class/ Time/  ED260 6B
Round Table
Subject  2.30 – 3.00 PM
 Science Form 1
Topic Chapter 7: Air
Think Pair Share
Subtopic 7.1: Composition of Air
Objective Students can understand and communicate on composition of
Hot Seat
air.
At the end of the class, students should be able to:
Presentation /
i. Plan ways to determine and record the composition of
Learning air.
Outcomes ii. Identify the composition of air from a pie chart I-Think Map
iii. Justify the importance of oxygen, nitrogen carbon
dioxide and inert gases in daily life.
Students can be considered successful if:
i. Students can determine the composition of the air.
ii. At least four students can identify the composition of air
Success
from a pie chart. Gallery Walk
Criteria
iii. At least four students can justify the importance of
oxygen, nitrogen carbon dioxide, and inert gases in daily
life.

Set Induction 1. Teacher enters the class and greet the students. Level of Mastery
(5 minutes) 2. Teacher asks class representative to recite the “Doa”.
3. Teacher asks whether they have had their lunch or not.
4. Teacher communicates with the students by asking them
are they sleepy in evening class.
5. Teacher tell the students to inhale and exhale about three
times to reduce their sleepiness.
6. Teacher ask the students either they have a prior
knowledge of what they inhale and exhale.
7. Student answering the questions by rising their hand and
who got the correct answer will receive present.
8. Teacher tell the students that nowadays air is unhealthy
as they will inhale not only oxygen but also other
dangerous substance.
9. Teacher tell the students that today they will cover on
composition of air first before learning on what the air
pollution all about for the next class.
In Class 1. Teacher remind the students that they already learned
(Teacher- about state of matter in chapter 5.
Centred) 2. Teacher asks the students what they can understand about
matter.
3. Teacher asks the students if the air consider as matter.
4. Teacher introduces the students that the air consists a lot
of substances
5. Teacher explains to the students that the air consists of
78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.03% carbon dioxide,
0.97% inert gaseous and other substance by providing a
pie chart.
6. Teacher explains that inert gaseous in our air such as
helium, argon, neon, xenon and krypton does not
undergo chemical reactions under a set of given
conditions.
7. Teacher tell the students that other components that exist
in the air are microorganisms, water vapour and dust.
The quantity of these components is low and varies
according to place and time. For example, there is more
water vapour in forests or after the rain than during a hot
day.
8. Students are introducing the importance of the oxygen:
i. Respiration
ii. Combustion of rocket engine at high altitudes
iii. Welding and steel cutting
iv. Preparation of various compounds

9. Students are introducing the importance of the carbon

dioxide.
i. Photosynthesis
ii. Production of carbonated drinks
iii. Fire extinguisher

10. Students are introducing the importance of the nitrogen.

i. Production of nitric acid and ammonia
ii. Nitrogen cycle
iii. Liquid nitrogen as cooling agent

11. Students are introducing the importance of the inert

gaseous.
i. Helium is used to fill hot air balloons and weather
balloons
ii. Neon gas is used in advertising lights
iii. Argon gas is used in light bulbs
(some example that hard to imagine by the students will be
provided with pictures and explanations).

12. Teacher tell the students to try remembering the

importance of these 4 components of air because after this
there will be an activity.

1. Teacher divided the students into 4 groups.

2. Teacher explains to the students that this game is identify
the importance composition of air and complete the maze
In Group until finish.
(Student- 3. Students are given 4 minutes to complete this game and
Centred) who done it first by paste on the whiteboard with the
correct answer consider as the winner.
4. Teacher will pick one representative from each group to
explains each composition of air with one importance.
Conclusion 1. Before dismissing the class, teacher ask four students to
state the composition of:
i. Nitrogen,
ii. Oxygen,
iii. Carbon dioxide and
iv. Inert gas
2. Teacher asks the students if they ever imagined life
without air.
3. Teacher explains to the students, if there is no air our
lives will not evolved.

1. Moral value (Team Work)
- During the activities, students are given time to
complete their tasks. In this activity, students are
trained to work in a team that consists a huge number
of students and to make sure that their tasks are totally
complete within the time given.
2. Language
EMK Experiment
- Teacher made sure the terms, pronunciation, structure
of the sentences and the grammar that going to teach
the students are correct.
