Position: Resource Development Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose
To serve on the administrative team as primary staff member
responsible for management, planning, and coordination of BLCI’s fund
raising program, including but not limited to annual goal setting,
development committee coordination , donor events, grant and report
writing, and support for administrative functions.

Organizational Overview
Founded in 1996, Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promoting the pursuit of higher education for
students who are traditionally under-represented in college through
after school programs that begin in third grade. Based in the Barrio
Logan area of San Diego, BLCI is a forward-looking institution offering
programs to elementary, middle school, high school students, and
college-enrolled alumni. Through after-school learning, mentorship,
and parent participation programs, BLCI works towards its mission of
providing students and their families with the skills and resources
necessary to pursue their dreams and make going to college a reality.

Qualifications:
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
or university.
• A minimum of three to five years work experience in relevant
fund raising activities and a proven track record of accomplishment
in this area. Work experience in non-profit agency operations,
specifically in the fundraising field or equivalent experience in a
related field (e.g. sales/marketing) desirable.
• Considerable knowledge of fundraising techniques, and
sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations.
• Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and
procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit
organizations youth development services preferred.
• Ability to organize and coordinate fundraising operations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, both verbal and
written.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with BLCI staff, Board members, volunteers,
community groups, and other related agencies.
• Knowledge of accessing and utilizing a donor database.
• Knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to
fundraising issues.

Key Responsibilities:
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works
jointly with other staff and Board members to raise program revenues.
The position responsibilities include maintenance of donor database
pertinent to income tracking and generating reports, promoting and
marketing of sponsorship and donor opportunities, authoring
newsletter content and distributing monthly, lead role in ongoing fund
raising functions including annual campaigns, major and planned gifts,
service on organizational committees, and support and administrative
assistance to the Executive Director as requested.

Duties include:

Strategic Fundraising Planning:


• Design an annual resource development plan in concert with the
Board of Directors and Executive Director
• Serve as primary staff contact for the Development Committee and
prepare fund raising reports for the Board of Directors

Annual Giving:
• Work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and
volunteers to facilitate at least two annual direct mail campaigns

Special Event Coordination:


• Attend to logistics of events including obtaining sponsorships,
solicitation of gifts, preparing related printed materials and
publications, and organizing volunteers

Grant Funding:
• Research prospective foundations, corporate and government
grantors and develop proposals for financial support
• Oversee grant administration and reporting

Major Gifts:
• Support the Executive Director in the identification, research,
cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects and donors
• Collaborate with BLCI Board members and key volunteers to engage
them in donor solicitations
• Conduct face-to-face solicitations, involving BLCI Board members
and key volunteers, as appropriate
• Provide support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned
by the Executive Director (including gifts and grants from
individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies, and
others)
• Prepare correspondence, proposals and reports

Resource Management:
• Manage record keeping for donors, assuring effective administrative
and operational support functions are in place

Partnership Development:
• Develop strategic alliances with community leaders, donors and
prospects.
• Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving
organizations, members, parents, families, funders and community
organizations

Marketing and Public Relations:


• Increase visibility of BLCI programs, services and activities and
maintain good public relations with donors and prospects.
• Design and implement direct mail programs, campaign materials,
newsletters and web site content in concert with the Executive
Director
• Ensure the design and development of public relations documents
for use in the promotion of fund raising and education of the public,
including press releases

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience.
