The Need for Love

In our world today, we see many different types of people try to express love. There are

many ways to describe love as it means something different to everyone. Common ways to

express love include poems, songs, paintings, etc. Poems are probably one of the most common

way to express different types of love. In the poem “Before You Came” by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he

talks of the importance of love. This poem truly shows how important it is to incorporate love in

our everyday lives as it relates to the Beatle’s song “All You Need is Love”.

The love we see being explained in the poem “Before You Came” by Faiz Ahmed Faiz is

an eros love. Faiz goes into detail on what the world is like without love. He describes how the

world is plain and dull without it. He then goes into detail on how love can change your whole

perspective. For example, Faiz describes how the sky becomes “a shirt wet with tears” with love

compared to it being the “dead end of sight.” He finally tells of how he does not want his girl to

leave as he likes living in a world with love. It gives Faiz a sense of purpose in the world which

leads to a more fulfilling life. He tends to use a lot of different love languages in this poem to

describe his eros love. The main love language used in this poem is words of affirmation.

Throughout the entire poem, Faiz describes how the world is a better place with her in his life.

He is confirming how love makes his life better by describing ordinary things in a new light.

Even though words of affirmation is the primary love language used here, we also see love

languages such as receiving gifts and quality time. Faiz is giving the gift of himself to reach an

eros love in this poem. Quality time is also described in a way that Faiz has been spending a lot

of time with this girl he loves and that is why his world is changing. Even though this poem has a

lot of defining features in describing love, there are a lot of works out there that relate to this

poem.

This poem has very definitive features, but still relates to a lot of love works we see

today. “Before You Came” tends to show a lot of relation to the song “All You Need is Love” by

the Beatles. Even though this is a song instead of a poem, they both tend to show how love is

important. They also both describe the need for love. This Beatles song demonstrates how

everything you can do can be done by someone else out in the world. It then tells of how you can

find yourself, but you just need love to do so. This is similar to the idea in Faiz’s poem because

they both describe how love is not ordinary and that it is a gift that can help you see and do

things that other people cannot. They both describe how love can change your perception. Even

though the Beatle’s song seems to demonstrate a philautia love, it is still giving a similar

message. These works are also very similar in the way they strongly use words of affirmation as

their main love language. They both use it repeatedly to describe the importance of love. These

works truly bring love into the light as they can be directed towards us to help us in our love

lives.

These works truly show us the importance of love and why we need it to lead a fulfilling

life. There biggest connection is that they both describe how love can change your perception on

the world and on the person you are showing love for. We can use these works in our own lives

by them encouraging us to find love based on the way it is described. These works teach us to

not be afraid of love, but to invite it into our lives. Love is a truly important part of our world

today that everyone should want to find.
