TEST RESULTS UNIT REFERENCE/ Interpretation and Analysis
Norms
Hemoglobin 12 g/L 12-16 I: Hemoglobin mirrors the RBC results. The client’s hemoglobin is within the
normal range but needs to monitor because it is at the lowest range.
A:
This test is a measure of the total amount of Hgb. In the blood. Also used as a rapid
indirect of the RBC count it is reported especially in patients with ongoing
bleeding or as a routine part of the complete blood cell count. It is an integral part
of the evaluation of anemic patients.
The Hgb. Concentration is a measure of the total Hgb., in the peripheral blood. It is
normally performed as a part of a complete blood cell count. Hemoglobin serves as
a vehicle for oxygen and carbon dioxide transport, the oxygen carrying capacity of
the blood is determined by Hgb concentration. Hgb also acts as an important acid –
base buffer system.
Hematocrit 37 36-46 I: Hematocrit also proportional to the RBC results. It is within the normal range.
The hematocrit (Ht or HCT) or packed cell volume (PCV) or erythrocyte volume
fraction (EVF) is the proportion of blood volume that is occupied by red blood
cells.

RBC Count 4.45 x 10^6/uL 4.2-5.4 I: The RBC count is within the normal range
A: A RBC count is used to evaluate any type of decrease or increase in the number
of red blood cells as measured per liter of blood.

WBC Count 10.3 x 10 u/L 5.0-10.0 I: The WBC count is higher than the normal value since the client’s body needs to
combat pathogens by phagocytosis and immune response.
A: White blood cell (WBC) count is a count of the actual number of white blood
cells per volume of blood.
White blood cells (WBCs), or leukocytes are cells of the immune system defending
the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials.

Lymphocytes 21 % 20-40 I: The client’s lymphocytes are within the normal range.

Monocytes 4 % 2-8 I: The client’s monocytes result is within the normal range.

Platelet Count 216 x 10/uL 150-400 I: The client has a normal platelet count.
