THE LEARNER & LEARNING ENVIRONMENT STRATEGIES FOR STUDENT SUPPORT & SUCCESS
STUDENTS: This is a classroom of both equal parts of male and STUDENTS: In this class my students are very technology advanced. I
female. This class has a majority of 9th grade students who have not have students present their screen in order for students to be able to
taken a health class prior to this class. Many of them are of the understand how to turn in their assignments and how to navigate
Caucasian decent and do not know much about the harms of sun through the school websites provided to them. These students are
exposure. allowed to type in the chat or unmute themselves at any time in
order to get the proper help needed for them to be successful in
class. Some students do have IEP’s and what we do in order to make
sure we follow them is we give more time to submit assignments,
more attempts to get a better score, and help by going into separate
meetings on teams with them.
MATERIALS & CLASSROOM: ENVIRONMENT: Since these are online classes their environments
Laptops are different from one another. They have many distractions such as
Internet people at home, their television sets, games, and more. The main
Class Links website thing that needs to be in front of them is their computers. Students
Schoology have issues with their wifi which causes some delays in the class but
they are able to get back on and do their work at anytime.

INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE
Utilize HLP, incorporate principles for SEL, UDL as appropriate
A. Introduction – Engaging Students, Activating Prior Knowledge, and Setting Lesson Goals __5____minutes needed
 Hello class! How is everyone today (expecting a thumbs up through their cameras or unmuting themselves to speak). Today we will be
discussing the harms of sun exposure, tanning beds, and skin cancer. We will be going through two videos, a PowerPoint, and two
articles that will each follow along with a formative assessment that will be found on your schoology page. Lets get started!
B. Instructional Sequence: _____60_minutes needed
 Introductions with objectives:
o You will be able to identify at least 3 ways of avoiding sun exposure and the risk factors that increase your risk of melanoma.
You will also be able to recognize the importance of skin care and hopefully you will want to create your own routine after this
lesson.
o You will be assessed by the assignments that will be done after each schoology tab we go through. You will have enough time
to finish each puzzle piece with the time given, usually 10 to 15 minutes.
o We will first be going through our new Glencoe Health Book. I will help you guys through it by having a student present their
screen so that we can submit our assignments correctly. Once we go through that we will watch a skin acne video that will
explain how one can protect their skin from sun exposure and prevent acne. You will then have 10 minutes to do your skin
acne video questions. You will be given 10 minutes to finish those and then we will come back on and go through the next
schoology tab. (give students 10 minutes to finish their questions) Welcome back, I would like everyone to turn their cameras
on. Now we are going to go through the skin cancer power point which will then be followed with a skin cancer PowerPoint
questions. I will be giving you 10 minutes to finish those questions as well, you will then turn that in and we will move on to
the next schoology tab. (give students 10 minutes to finish the power point questions) Welcome back, let us all turn our
camera back on. Now there are two articles that you will be reading by yourself and then answering the questions that will go
along with both articles.

C. Closure –Summarizing and Synthesizing Students’ Learning _5 ____minutes needed

o We learned today about the dangers of sun exposure, tanning beds, how to prevent acne, and how to take care of your skin
with skincare. You are to submit everything in by the end of the hour and then I will see you in two days.

APPENDIX A.

IV. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Teacher Reflection

Teacher Reflection (InTASC 9):

 Each of the objectives were met and how I knew that was because of the grades the students received on each of
the assessment. My students received an 85% or higher on the assessments that were created. I will use this data
to see what I need to explain more of the next time I teach this lesson. The entire lesson went well in my opinion
but there was a part where a student didn’t have access to her book and I needed my mentor teachers help. Next
time I would not talk as much during the PowerPoint and ask more questions to make sure my students are
following along and understanding the content that is being delivered.
