Human Cloning is Not the Solution!

Have you ever gone to the mall and while roaming around you saw someone
wearing the same clothes you are wearing? It feels a bit awkward, right? Another, have
you ever heard about doppelganger? They say a doppelganger is a person who
resembles you or looks exactly like you. In some countries, they believe that if you
happen to see your doppelganger, it will give you bad luck and the worst scenario is that
it is an apparition that your time of death is near already. Sounds creepy and scary,
right? Though these events rarely happen, what we are trying to point out here is that
what would you feel if, through the advanced development of science and technology,
human cloning would be possible and legalized in the next hundred years? With this, let
us discover what would be some of the most controversial ethical dilemmas attached to
human cloning.

According Center for Genetics and Society (2020), human cloning often refers to
human reproductive cloning to produce a genetic copy of an existing person. In other
words, it is an attempt of replicating an existing person through the use of genes. By
this, human cloning raises the most profound questions about human nature, our faith in
us, and our ability to make decisions that could significantly alter the character of
humanity. In recent years, there has been a drastic change in the field of science,
including advancement in cloning technology that aimed to produce a genetic copy of
an existing person and considered a scientific revolution. However, it is widely opposed
by many because various ethical issues may arise. Additionally, it poses potential
physical and psychological harm to human beings, and the majority of scientists believe
that human reproductive cloning is harmful, especially to women, because it could
adversely impact the psychological well-being of cloned children. From this point of
view, it raises profound ethical, social, and health-related concerns.

Human cloning is unethical against humanity because both the existing and the
cloned will be hurt and suffer. In animal trials, one might think of the great success of
Dolly, the sheep which was two decades ago that came only after 277 failed attempts at
cloning. So now, the question is, when it comes to human beings, are we ready to kill or
destruct numerous human embryos in clinical trials before we could perfect this
technique? We believe that attempts to clone humans will result in even higher failure
rates, but even if we do the risk, that clone will not be likely to live a full, healthy life and
will have a shortened life. Further, it also violates the nature of reproduction, human
identity, and morals of life. Allowing the act might result in uncontrolled genetic
mutations that will harm people instead of prolonging life. The mere fact that actual
human lives are involved in these kinds of experiments makes it more severe. It is harsh
to imagine forming an individual just to become a donor for the original person. Also, the
idea of potentially treating and curing millions of people as the result of this research is
not enough reason to take away the lives of the embryos used in the experimentation. It
is unethical to sacrifice human life for the sake or benefit of others. Remember, the end
does not justify the means.

In addition, many people are worried about this development. They paid attention
to religious arguments tackling the procedure of creating human being and after that, kill
them to use their organs to cure the original person. They are protesting that this is a
form of murder already which is a mortal sin as reflected in the bible and other religious
texts. Another, the idea of “manufacturing humans” is really disturbing because it is an
express act of bypassing the power God that He is the only one who could give life and
eventually take it back if it is right time for us to face death and judgment. Have they no
fear of God? Because if we are to be asked, we firmly believe that human cloning is an
immoral act!

In summary, human cloning is a controversial issue because for some, this is

something to be proud of because reproducing a human being through clinical testing
and experimentation without sexual intercourse is ground-breaking and a great
evidence of how far we have reached in this modern science and more technological
period but for some, this is something that should not have even entered into our minds
because of the alarming and disturbing ethical issues attached to it. We firmly go hand-
in-hand with those of people against this development because we highly value the
worth of human lives. Our life is a gift from God and everything that we have – our skills,
talents and capabilities, we owe it all to Him so it is really just unethical to imagine using
this blessing against Him. Life is created fair for each of the living, and all have rights in
this world whether an animal, plant or human. Also, in times that we feel pressured
because we are being bombarded of tasks that we need to accomplish and when we
feel devastated of losing someone in our lives, remember, another version or a
duplicate of us is not the solution instead, what we should do is to learn how to manage
and accepts things that naturally happen in our lives. Why are we bringing this up to
you? Because in this simple “fictional thoughts” we tend to think sometimes, there
arises the idea of making it into a reality not realizing that some things that are fictional
should remain to be a fiction. We must face reality that our life is not perfect. Human
cloning will never be the solution and we should cherish each other’s lives.
