comprehension and understanding of a text.
PENNSYLVANIA STATE CORE STANDARD(S):
Standard - CC.1.2.2.B
Ask and answer questions such as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate
understanding of key details in a text.
STEPS OF EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION:
1. Review that we previously learned about retelling the main parts of a story (setting,
character, plot, beginning, middle, and end). Review that the Characters of a story are
WHO the story is about. Review that the setting is WHERE AND WHEN a story takes
place. Review that the plot is WHAT, happens in the story and HOW and WHY it
happens. Review that all of these questions can help us to understand a text.
2. Student will read a short story. After the story, she will recall the who, what, where,
when, why, and how of a story by using a graphic organizer. Student will be able to look
back through story.
