Unit 8 + A date to remember The photograph LOUIS DAGUERRE FROM FRANCE Louis Daguerte was a painter for the French opera, But he wanted to make a new type of picture. He started his experiments in the 1920s. Twelve years later he invented the photograph. He sold is idea to the French government in 1935 and the government gave it to the world. Daguerre called the first photographs ‘daguerreotypes. ‘They became popular very fast. By 1940, there were 70 daguerreotype studios in New York City. In winter she noticed that whenit rained or snowed, drivers got out oftheir cars all the time to clean their windows. it 1893 she began designing something to clean the windows from inside the car.
