1.0 Introduction

We specialize in providing products and services for Office


Automation Systems (OAS). OAS are information systems that
create, store, modify, display, and communicate business
correspondence such as business letters, office document, pre-printed
forms, financial statement, etc., whether in written, verbal, or video
format.

The prevalence of microcomputers in the office, along with a veritable


explosion in new communications, computer, and storage products,
are causing fundamental changes in the ways that offices conduct
their business. Initially, computer systems are used just for stand-
alone word processing. Over time, however, computers are required to
be connected to one another to increase productivity. This connection
allowed office personnel not only to share word processing files but
also to send messages to one another.

With these developments, electronic mail systems can be deployed in


which office personnel can generate and send messages to one
another. Also, since office workers have accesses to the same files,
central file servers and databases can be created where information
sharing is automated. All of these capabilities become even more
exciting as high-quality graphics printers are more and more
affordable. With these printers, many systems gain the ability to
process illustrations and graphics as well as text. Additionally, high-
quality, multi-function facsimile machines provide a cost-effective way
to communicate documents containing text, illustrations, and graphics
over telephone lines inexpensively.

In parallel with these developments, computer technology is used to


improve office voice systems. Office telephones are connected to
sophisticated private branch exchange (PBX) systems and voice
response units (VRU). Such systems allow office staffs to have voice
mailboxes in which they can leave voice messages for one another. In
more advanced office environment, call center applications supporting
customer service and telemarketing functions are more and more
automated by using interactive voice response (IVR) and computer
telephony integration (CTI) technologies.

Finally, video conferencing systems, which in the past only large


corporations can afford in a few central locations, are becoming much
more affordable to be implemented in an office environment.

2.0 OAS Architecture

The following diagram depicts the general architecture of a typical OAS environment.

This architecture shows how the various components in an OAS


environment are related to each other. Premises wiring systems
provide physical connectivity for all the other OAS components.
Networking & Communications equipment provide the office network
for data, voice and video. Other office components such as telephone
systems, computers and peripheral, video conferencing systems,
facsimile machines and photocopiers provide their own specific
functions.

3.0 OAS Products & Services

To support the above architecture, we provide the following categories


of OAS products and services:

3.1 Premises Wiring Systems

In order to allow various office equipment to be connected to each


other thus improving the productivity of office staffs, the physical
network in the form of Premises Wiring Systems must be reliable,
flexible and modular in design. Every office network requires some
form of physical interconnection hardware, for example, copper wire,
fiber optic cable, or a wireless transmitter. Items such as equipment
cabinets, wall plates, wiring blocks, floor ducts, distribution frames,
etc., are required in every network design and most often determine
whether or not a particular network will function properly and reliably.
We are fully qualified to provide complete set of wiring products and
services.

Some of the more popular Premises Wiring Systems are IBM Cabling
System, AT&T SYSTIMAX PDS and MOD-TAP.

3.2 Networking & Communications

Networking and Communications equipment includes routers, bridges,


hubs, switches, repeaters, transceivers, network interface cards in
Ethernet, 10Base-T, Token Ring, ARCnet, etc.. Other communications
equipment such as multiplexers, modems, CSU/DSUs, line drivers,
sharing devices, converters, ISDN and ATM equipment.

3.3 Computers & Peripherals

Desktops/mini-towers, notebooks, monitors, video & I/O boards,


keyboards, floppy drives, hard drives, CD-ROM, dot-matrix printers,
laser printers, scanners, plotters, tape back-up, uninterrupted power
supply (UPS).

3.4 Office Equipment

Fax machines, photocopiers, electronic typewriters.
