Introduction

Caffeine, one of the most popular and important substance in the world. It is a
natural substance that can be found in nuts, seeds, or leaves in a specific plant and
undergone process in order to enhance various beverages, desserts, medicines and
other daily products. Caffeine also considered to be a stimulant in our brain which has
the ability to enhance concentration, mood and increase metabolism. People often
consume caffeine as their need, as they wake up in the morning they often feel like to
consume coffee or other caffeinated based products in order to stay awake and to have
motivation to work fo their jobs or their daily routine. In most cases, consumption of
caffeine is relatively safe; however when someone crossed the line for a need of
caffeine to obsession it is an indicative of addiction.

An average person can consume 400 milligrams of caffeine a day and it appears
to be the safest amount of caffeine, amounts that exceeds the normal basis of caffeine
are signs of being addicted to these substance. People can develop dependency on
caffeinated beverages quickly. This is because caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine-
a nuerotransmitter that relaxes the brain and makes a person tired- making a person
awake and active. When consuming caffeine regularly, one can develop tolerance to
these substance, just like alcoholic drinks and drugs.

Generally, this report aims to:

1. Provide general information about caffeine and caffeinated products.

2. Evaluate the effects of caffeine on the society.

3. Elaborate the advantages and disadvantages of caffeine consumption.

4. Determine the factors that tolerate Caffeine Addiction.


Findings

In order to expand our topic, we have conducted a survey to collect more


information about caffeine. The survey contains 7 questions and we have chosen 30
anonymous respondents from the province of Iloilo to provide for the answers.

below have (3) respondents, ages 16-35 have (15) respondents, respondents, ages 36-

Coffee, beverage brewed from roasted and ground seeds of tropical
evergreen coffee plant of African origin. Coffee is one of the three most-
popular beverages in the world ( along with water and tea), its
popularity is mainly attributed to its invigorating effect.

Next caffeinated product with the most tally vote is Chocolate Desserts.

Chocolate Desserts/ Chocolate is a food or flavoring made from the


seeds of cacao or chocolate tree. It is rich in flavonoids, compounds that
act as anti-oxidants.

Next to Chocolate is Energy Drinks.

Energy Drink, any beverage that contains high levels of stimulant


ingedient, usually caffeine, as well as sugar and oftent supplements,
such as vitamins or carnitine, and that is promoted as product capable
of enhancing mental and physical alertness.

And lastly, the product that has the least tally vote is Tea.

Tea, beverage produced by steeping in freshly boiled water the young


leaves and leaf buds of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Two principal
varieties are used, the small leaved plant and the large-leaved plant.The
leaves may be fermented or left unfermented.

Base on the survey people usually take caffeine to stay awake because some of
them have night shifts and projects that are needed to finish on time, with the help of
caffeine products people are being enhance physically and emotionally. And some take
caffeine because of social influences and labels.

Result also shows that:


The number servings of caffeine that people normally consume are 3 servings a
day based on the respondents. Normal consumption of caffeine can lead to progressive
health improvement like:

1. Can Improve Energy Levels And Increase Your Brain Alertness.

Caffeine blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter in your brain, which causes a


stimulant effect. This Improves mood and various aspects of brain function.

2. Can Burn Fat/ Improve Digestion

Caffeine products are best pair with food, and have properties that can increase
metabolism.

3. Can Drastically Improve Physical Performance.

Caffeine can increase adrenaline levels and release fatty acids from your fat
tissues. It also leads to significant improvements in physical performance.

4. Contains Essential Nutrients.

Coffee and Tea contains several important nutrients including manganese,


potassium, riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acids.

Some of the respondents who take caffeine daily on larger amount are at risk in
developing symptoms that can affect one’s health like:

1. Palpitation – Large dose of caffeine may increase heart rate or rhythm in some
people.

2. Insomnia- Caffeine consumed later in the day may interfere with sleep because its
effects can take several hours to wear off.

3. Bloating – Large dose of coffee or other caffeine products can create a gassy
stomach because of chemical imbalance.
4. Muscular Jerks / Involuntary Movements – Large dose of caffeine can stimulate
muscular spasm and sometimes damage our nerves.

5. Migraine- An excessive amount of caffeine can cause severe headaches and creates
chemical imbalance on our brain.

Conclusion

Based on the findings of the report, caffeine consumption is considered to be


healthy if taken in moderation which depends on the number of servings that an
average person can consume. The most popular caffeine product is coffee it is a
beverage that is mostly taken on the morning and paired with bread and other pastry
product, followed by chocolate desserts, energy drinks and tea .Taking caffeine have
different health benefits like: it can improve brain performance, it relieve stress, it can
increase metabolism, and it enhances physical and mental performances.. But for those
who exceeds on the normal servings of caffeine are considered to be addicted to the
substance and are at risk on developing different symptoms that can affect one’s health
like: Palpitation, bloating or gassy stomach, headaches, and muscular abnormalities. In
order to avoid getting too attached to caffeine, one must have a proper discipline in
order to know what is enough and what is too much, also one must have enough
knowledge in order to know the risk in taking various substances like caffeine.

Abstract
