learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

Welcome to the Mathematics 4 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module 8
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
At the end of this module you will also find:

What will I do?
Problem 1

Mang Tomas has 1 848 eggs to be delivered to a market. If the eggs are
to be placed in small trays with 6 eggs each, how many trays will be
needed?

Problem 2
Eight telephone poles in a row are equal in distances from each other. If
the distance from the first to the last pole is 140 meters, what is the
distance between each pole? Make a diagram or drawing as your
solution.
Problem 3

The average of 6 numbers is 66. If 75 and 89 are added to 6 numbers,

what is the new average?

Problem 4

Ben has some goats and a chicken in his backyards. All in all, there
are 15 heads and 46 legs. How many chickens and goats are there?

What ’s t he meaning?
In solving routine problems involving division of 3-to 4 digit numbers by 1- to 2-digit
numbers including money using appropriate problem- solving strategies and tools,
follow the steps:
• Understand
Know what is asked
Know the given facts
• Plan
Determine the operation to be used
Write the number sentence
• Solve
Show your solution
• Check and Look back
Review and recheck your answer

3
Solution for problem 1:
 What is asked? The number of trays needed
 What are the given facts? 1848 eggs: 6 eggs in a tray
 What is the operation to be used? Division
 What is the number sentence? 1 848 ÷ 6 = N
 Show your solution. 1 848 ÷ 6 =308

Solution for problem 2 :

140 meters
Based from the illustration above, you can see that there are 8 poles and 7
spaces. Since you are looking for the distance of each pole, you divide 140
meters by 7 spaces.
1407 = 20 meters
Solution for problem 3.
 What is asked? The new average
 What are the given facts? 6 numbers: the average of 6 number is
66, 75 and 89
 What are the operations to be used? Multiplication, Division and Addition

 What are the hidden questions? What is the sum of 6 numbers?

What is the new sum if you add 75
and 89?
 Write the number sentence. (66 x 6) + (75 + 89) ÷ 8 = N
 Show your solution: (66 x 6) + ( 75 + 89) ÷ 8 = N
( 396 + 164 ) ÷ 8 = N
570 ÷ 8 = N
70 = N
To solve multistep non-routine problems involving division and other
operations, read and analyze the problem carefully. Tell what is asked and
what are given. Then, use strategies like acting out the problem, listing/table
method, guess and check, drawing/ making a diagram, using patterns,
working backward, etc. to solve it.

4
Solution for problem 4.
 Draw 15 heads first

 Draw 2 legs in each head.

15 x 2 = 30 leg. Subtract 30 legs from the given 46 legs.

 Solve: 46 – 30 = 16 legs left. 16 ÷ 2 = 8.
Draw 2 legs to 8 heads.

So, there are 8 heads with 4 legs and 7 heads with 2 legs.
Therefore, 8 x 4 legs = 32
7 x 2 legs = 14
