Research Proposal

Purpose of the Research

The general purpose is to figure out that two and a half years on, how the much-
sought democracy has lived upto people’s expectations. Also, to find out if the
democratic system still have the people’s support.

Research Design

The research will be conducted with the help of Surveys. Questionnaire and
Interview both will be the mode of gathering information. People will be randomly
selected. Some sample questions that will be asked are:

1. Is the government accountable to the people and their representative?

• Partially

• Maybe

2. Is the government able to influence or control those matters that are

important for the lives of its people and how well it is informed, organized and
resourced to do so?

• Yes

• No

• To some extent

• Don’t know

3. How much public confidence is there in the effectiveness of government and

its political leadership?

• 80%-100%

• 60%-79%

• 40%-59%
• Below 40%

People who participate in the research will be first asked if they prefer to fill the
questionnaire or give an oral interview. The questionnaire and interview will be an
individual analysis and people participate will answer on the basis of their personal
views.

Sample Design

• The survey will be a countrywide research targeting majority of the population.

• The survey results will be based on following age group criteria:

 18-24

 25-34

 35-44

 45-54

 55 onwards

The eligibility to be a participant of this research is to be 18+ and the person

should have its own views to answer the questions of the research.

Data Gathering

From the list of well known and established research institutions, 3 institutions will
be given the task of carrying out the survey and preparing a database for the
research.
Data Processing and Analysis

As our database will be large, computer compilation will be used for data
processing. The steps involved will be:

 categorizing the data,

 coding the data
 summarizing the data

Analysis of data will involve the production and interpretation of tables and graphs,
that will describe the data.

Report Preparation

A detail and combine report will be prepared by the 3 selected institutions.

Budget and Time Schedule

Funding for the countrywide analysis was by the Government of Pakistan. The
budget covered stationery, fuel, subsistence, accommodation for the field team and
printing of the report and totaled approximately Rs. 500,000.

The time frame for the research is 8-10 months.
