Introduction
Section 1-1
Overview
1-1-1 Purpose of this Manual
This manual provides information, how to install the Power Filter assembly on following Voluson system.

Chapter 2
Installation Procedure
Section 2-1
Power Off / Shutdown the System
Voluson E-Series systems
1.) Press the ON/OFF Standby button on the control panel twice to perform full shutdown.
2.) After complete power down, switch OFF the circuit breaker at the rear of the system.
3.) Unplug the AC mains power cable from the wall outlet socket.
4.) Unscrew 2 screws at the rear of the system, remove pull-out protection and unplug the main power
cable from the system.
Section 2-2
Connect the Power Filter to the System
1.) Voluson E-Series and Voluson 730Expert/Pro/ProV: Connect the proper Power Extension Cord (2)
to the Voluson systems main power plug and screw on the pull-out protection.
1.) Voluson i/e: Connect the proper Power Extension Cord (2) to the input socket on the Voluson
Station, Cart or the AC/DC power adapter of the system.
2.) The other end of the Power Extension Cord connect to the power outlet of the Power Filter (1).
3.) Connect the “original” AC mains power cable (3) to the power inlet of the Power Filter.
The other end connect to a wall outlet socket with proper rated voltage.
NOTE: If the systems AC mains power cable has C19 connector, use the Adapter (C13-C20) from the kit.
Section 2-3
Functional Checks after the Installation
1.) Switch ON the main switch of the Power Filter.
2.) Switch ON the circuit breaker of the Voluson system.
3.) Press the ON/OFF (Standby) button on/below the control panel.
4.) Perform basic functional checks to ensure that the system is working normally.
5.) If necessary, analyze EMC noise as described in Section 2-4-1 on page 2-5.
6.) Perform Electrical Safety Tests as described in Chapter 10 of the Voluson systems Service Manual.
Section 2-4
Troubleshooting
2-4-1 How to analyze the EMC noise
A.) Switch on the Voluson system and choose settings which show EMC noise in the ultrasound
image.Typically the ultrasound probe must be contacted (hold in hand/apply to body) to observe
EMC noise.
B.) Disconnect one by one all cords that are connected to the Voluson system like LAN/Ethernet, VGA,
DVI, S-Video, USB, ... on the ultrasound system-side and observe the EMC noise.
C.) If EMC noise is still present after disconnecting all cables, then use the stand-alone Power Filter
(H48701EL) to power the Voluson ultrasound system.
Connect the Power Filter between AC mains and the Voluson system as shown in Figure 2-1.
D.) Switch on the Voluson system.
E.) Activate the ultrasound probe and choose settings which show EMC noise in the ultrasound image
to check for EMC noise (EMC noise should be absent).
If EMC noise is still present – then check again for any other conducting connections to the Voluson;
perform step B.) again.
F.) Connect one by one other cords to the Voluson system like LAN/Ethernet, VGA, DVI, S-Video,
USB, ... and check for EMC noise.
2-4-1-1 If a stand-alone UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is available to power the Voluson system
Connect the UPS between AC mains and the Voluson system in the same manner as shown in
Figure 2-1; - instead of the stand-alone Power Filter.
E.) If EMC noise is still present – then check again for any other conducting connections to the Voluson;
perform step C.) again.
F.) Connect one by one other cords to the Voluson system like LAN/Ethernet, VGA, DVI, S-Video,
USB, ... and check for EMC noise.
2-4-1-3 If EMC noise does not depend on whether the ultrasound probe is contacted
When the EMC noise does not depend on whether the ultrasound probe is contacted (hold in hand/
apply to body), then do the following:
A.) Hold the ultrasound probe only at the cable and change the orientation of the ultrasound probe.
B.) If the EMC noise changes by changing the orientation of the ultrasound probe then the EMC noise
is caused by a magnetic field in the room/building.
In such situations the Power Filter (H48701EL) cannot reduce the EMC noise.
