What is the fastest method of cooling a drink?

If you put the drink in ice water then the drink will

cool the drink faster than putting it in ice or cold

water or the fridge.

1. Gather Materials ( Twelve cans of soda at room temperature, a

thermometer, two coolers, ice cubes, a timer, plastic wrap)

2. Make four separate places to put three cans in (each). Those

places are the refrigerator, freezer, ice only cooler, and a ice water

mixture cooler.

3. Put three soda cans in each of the locations.

4. Time out and measure the temperature of the can for every two

minute interval for twenty minutes.

5. Record data and graph

1. Twelve cans of soda at room temperature

2. A thermometer

3. Two Coolers
4. Ice cubes

5. A timer.

In this lab I experimented to find the fastest way to cool a drink. I did this lab to find out the

quickest way to cool a drink from four different ways. The competition was between a

refrigerator, freezer, ice only cooler, and a ice water mixture cooler. My hypothesis stated
that if you put the drink in ice water the drink will cool down the fastest. After doing the lab

and collecting the data I found my hypothesis to be correct, the ice water does cool down the
drink the fastest. Originally I chose the ice water mixture to cool down the drinks the fastest

because it seemed to be the coldest.

There were many lapses that could have occurred in this experiment. For example, the

outside coolers may have been affected by the heating in the house. Another lapse that may

have occurred in this experiment would be that when I measured the temperature the

thermometer may have been a different temperature than the drink and may have changed
the overall temperature, however in the slightest bit. And I didn’t measure all the drinks at

the same exact time, I had to go from one to another quick as possible so this may be a major
lapse in the experiment.

Some new thing I have learned from this experiment is that Ice water is the faster than most
methods to cooling a drink. And, I have learned that even though two drinks can be next to

each other in the fridge, they aren’t necessarily the same exact temperature.
If I were to do this experiment again I would make certain changes. These changes include
having more than one temperature taker. This would help make the results more accurate by
taking the temperature at the same time. Another change I would make would be by

completely insulating the outside coolers, since they were outside and could have been
affected by the heating inside of the house. And lastly, I would make sure I have more than

one thermometer. This would be quite beneficial since it would make sure that all of the
different areas would have there own thermometer for themselves.
