learning tasks.
Pedagogy Planning

In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to identify,
discuss, describe, extend, and create various repeating patterns and learn about
patterns, functions, and algebra.

For example: In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to
move the appropriate shapes to extend existing patterns as well as to move a variety of
shapes of their own choosing (from a bank of shapes) to form their own patterns.


Pedagogy

Activity Before the students engage in the premade Smarttech


lesson “patterns”, the teacher will introduce/ review to
concept of identifying and creating repeating patterns.
 Students may then volunteer to identify and extend
several pre-made repeating patterns by dragging the
appropriate shapes into their correct places.
 After students have become comfortable identifying
and extending both “ABA” and more complicated
patterns, they will be asked to split into small groups
and come up with their own patterns using several
different shapes from a bank.
 Students will then present their pattern to the class by
approaching the smart board and dragging the shapes
they have selected into place and describing their
chosen pattern to the class.
