Ultrasound Systems
Famio 5 is a basic diagnostic ultrasound system for black-and-white studies that is provided with a
10.4-inch liquid crystal display monitor. All functions required for examination are incorporated in a
stylish unit that can easily be set up immediately before examination is performed.
Famio 5 is positioned one class below Famio 8, which was launched in April of this year, and is
targeted at general practitioners.
The catch phrase for Famio 5 is the same as that for Famio 8, “Smart Ultrasound”. Outstanding
agility and maneuverability as well as a fast start-up time ensure that the operator can perform
examinations smoothly and efficiently.
(note 1) Sprinter is not shipped for TAMS. The UJUR-321A , however, will be available for future
shipment.
PVG-381M 3.75-MHz microconvex for the heart and abdomen (5.0/3.7/3.0 MHz)
PVG-681M 6-MHz microconvex for the neonatal head, heart, and pediatrics (7.0/6.0/5.0 MHz)
PVG-720S 7.5-MHz convex for small parts and the carotid artery (8.0/7.5/5.0 MHz)
PLG-506M 5-MHz linear for the abdomen and small parts (7.0/5.0/4.0 MHz)
(for future shipment)
5. Sales strategies
Famio 5 can be used with the same transducers as JustVision and Capasee. Therefore, customers who
are currently using JustVision or Capasee do not need to purchase new transducers if they upgrade to
Famio 5.
(1) When the competing units are integrated systems with a cart
In competition against systems such as the Aloka SSD-1000, GE Logiq200 series, and SMS G20,
whether or not Famio 5 should be offered depends on how much importance the customer places
on image quality. When image quality is the most important consideration, Famio 8 is the best
choice. When other features such as multifrequency support and image memory capacity are
considered to be more important than image quality, Famio 5 is a suitable choice. The B-mode
color display function (which is available only with Famio 5) should also be emphasized.
In addition, the function for filing to HDD and the function for transferring images to PC via
Ethernet are unique to Famio5.
Systems competing against Famio 5 in terms of price include units such as the GE Logiq100.
Image quality and functions are comparable, but the lack of a cart may be a problem in some
situations.
The concept of Famio 5 is that the system can be stored in a small area and easily taken out when
needed. A cart in which peripheral devices are installed is therefore essential. When a system is to
be used in an examination room, a cart is usually used, even if it must be purchased separately.
Famio 5 is provided with a cart in the standard configuration. In addition, the adoption of a liquid
crystal display monitor makes it possible to start up the system in only 10 seconds. The agility and
maneuverability provided by the integrated the cart and the quick start-up time should be
emphasized.
