Task #2

1. Basing from the video, identify and write down the steps employed by Boeing in
managing the project.
1. Recycling/ Setup Shift – this is where parts, equipments and kits are staged at the
point of time.
2. 1st Shift – This is where the scheduling works, in this pace the line is regulated based
on costumer demand. In the video the lines move at a speed of 2 inches per minute.
Pitch marks indicate the progress relative to the schedule. Also, this is when the
equipments are staged near the point-of-use.
The kits are delivered to the point-of-use just in time. These contain parts, tools,
standards, chemicals and standard work instructions required for a specific job.
Team members (5) inform team leader of a problem. Here they are using the Ardon
system.
Feederlines perform jobs that can be accomplished at the main line. And the Pacer
system monitors the progress according to the schedule.
3. End of Shift – Upon 2 hours of Buffering, kits are replenished.
4. 2nd Shift – Here, the mechanics perform their jobs using standard work procedures.
Going back with the Ardon system.
Note: Work is balanced between both shifts with equal work and personnel.
Feederline performs again and here comes the installation of a service ready wing.
Note: Breakthroughs process re-design is a completely new way of performing the work.
5. Going again with the Recycling/ Setup Shift

2. Create a simple Process Flow or diagram in manufacturing the project.

Setup Shift
3. Which phase of the process/project do you consider critical?
The important phase I do consider critical on the manufacturing of Boeing 737 is the
controlling phase. It is where the project is monitored during the process through. The phase was
said to control the process according to the scheduled phase before the actual implementation of
the project. In the video it Is important to have balance and controlled work in both shifts and the
number of personnel in charge. If we don’t have control then the planning phase and scheduling
phase are useless. In the controlling phase, everybody are making sure that the parts and kits are
delivered and installed on time and the workers are following the quality control and standards in
doing their jobs. To conclude, without constant overseeing and controlling, the project may be
not be worked out according to the plan and goals of the business organization
