Komparativ und Superlativ
In this exercise we will practise the comparative and superlative forms! If you can't
remember the rules for that, check the info below!
The basic form of the adjective is called Positiv: Berlin ist groß.
The first comparative form (when you compare people or things and want to outline a
difference) is called Komparativ: London ist größer.
And the last form is called Superlativ. With this form you compare three or more people or
things and outline the highest stage: Tokio ist am größten.

Just like in English there is also several adjectives in the German language that form
the comparative and superlative in an irregular form:
Cari trinkt viel Bier. - Janusz trinkt mehr Bier. - Isi trinkt am meisten Bier.

Weil and denn both translate as because in English. While weil is a subordinating conjunction
connecting a main clause and a subordinate clause, denn is a coordinating conjunction
connecting two main clauses.
Choose the right conjunction for the sentences below! If you can't remember the rules for
main and subordinate clauses, check them below.
The most important rules for forming Hauptsätze (main clauses):
1) In a main clause the conjugated verb is always second (but it doesn't have to be the second
word in the sentence).
2) Indirect objects are usually before the direct objects - dative before accusative.
3) Time-Manner-Place
For Nebensätze (subordinate clauses) the main rule is that the conjugated verb is always at
the end.
Subordinate clauses can also stand at the beginning of a sentence, then the main clause

begins with a verb.
